Don’t You Think It’s A Little Early For Grilling?

I wish this was my backyard/grill 🙂

Yesterday morning I got up like I always do.   Roll out of bed, coffee, pack lunch, coffee, shower, coffee, get dressed, coffee, leave the house and head to work.  When I stepped out of the back door I was caught off guard by the lovely smell of someone grilling.   I thought to myself as I walked to the car, €œman that smells good €.   Then I thought, €œwait a minute, its Tuesday morning at 5:45 WHO THE HELL IS GRILLING? And WHY are they grilling SO EARLY!?! €   After a quick look around the neighbors backyards I see no signs of life. €œHmm??   That €™s peculiar. € I thought.

After wandering around for another 5 minutes I wound up back on my porch staring at MY grill which I discovered was the grill in question.   Now at our old apartment in New Haven I would not put it past a bum to walk into my backyard and cook a rat burger or something at 5am, I wouldn €™t think twice about it.   But not in our new neighborhood!   We don €™t have bums.   There could only be one explanation.   MY WIFE.

I flashback a couple of years ago when I was teaching her how to turn on and off the grill, and I told her to €œturn the burners off, then turn the propane tank off. €   I have always closed the valve on the tank, it saves gas and it gives me comfort in knowing that the gas is definitely turned off.   When I went through the steps with her, I guess the gas popped a little when she turned it off (which is TOTALLY NORMAL).   Well that was the end for Katie.   Ever since, she thinks the damn grill is going to explode if she turns it off.   She is terrified of it.   No matter how many times I walk out there with her to show her for the 14th time how to turn it off, she won €™t do it.  She cooks dinner and then usually says, “hey can you go turn the grill off?”.

Flashback to 6am, I €™m now going to be late for work because I €™m daydreaming on the back porch.   I think back to last night, when Katie was grilling pork chops for dinner.   Mmm €¦.   Pork chops €¦.

Wait!…..   Damn It!   She left the grill on!!!!   I got side tracked!   The grill has been on for 12hrs! What the hell?   Why is she afraid to turn the gas off?!!?   It €™s not going to blow up, just close the valve!

UGH.

Ah, the old Dwight St rat burgers. Don’t miss those! (As an alternative explanation for the grill: maybe Lucy masterminded a way to cook up some early morning burgers?)

So, the question is did she ask you to turn it off? LOL

Btw, kudos to you for deciding to check out where the smell was coming from!

I cant say I blame her Chris! Im terrifed of things like that because of the same reasons she is! So glad you caught it when you did!

She grilled pork chops for you, nuff said – all is forgiven. Some of us avoid the grill at all cost. I’m not naming names – okay, it’s me. I don’t grill at all – that way I don’t have a chance of accidently leaving it on.

This cracked me up! My friend and her husband have an outside grill connected to natural gas. One morning after grilling steaks the night before, he came in and said, “Well, there is good news and bad news: the good news is that the grill is cleaner than it has ever been. The bad news is that it cost us $80.” :))

EEESH. I’dve both lost my mind and cracked up like mad at the thought of 12 hours. Also, no idea New Haven was prone to bums!

“Don’t you think its about time to post again?” {j/k} I know you have a wife & baby to love & tend to. Especially if one of them needs constant monitoring around the bbq.

What a waste! This would never happen at our house for my husband wouldn’t touch our grill with a 10 foot pole. I prefer the flavor of charcoal and he cant make that stuff burn for all the tea in china. it might as well be presoaked with Evian instead of starter fluid. also, once you get them burning, you don’t have to turn them off, just wait them out.
