A Day in the Life of a Bean

I’m always curious as to what other people’s days are like.   You know – what they spend their time doing and what their schedules are.   Since I’ve had the Bean, I am particularly interested in what other babies schedules are like.   Just helps me keep on track with Beanie.   So I thought I’d share Beanie’s daily routine for all of you who are as curious about random things as I am:

(These times are just rough estimates.   We’re not working like clockwork just yet…)

5:30 AM – Wake up for a 6 oz. bottle. Then back to bed.

9:00 AM – Wake up, diaper change, get dressed, head downstairs to the living room.

9:00 – 10:00 AM – Play time!   (w/ tummy time if I can convince Beanie to behave)

10:00 AM – 4oz. bottle, diaper change, quiet time (read a book, listen to music, etc.)

10:30 AM – 1:00 PM – Nap time

1:00 PM – Wake up, 4 oz. bottle, diaper change

1:30 – 3:00 PM – Play time!   (If its not too hot we take a walk around the neighborhood)

3:00 – 5:00 PM – Afternoon nap (so Mommy can watch Ellen and Oprah!)

5:00 PM – Wake up, 4 oz. bottle, diaper change

5:30 PM – Daddy gets home from work (Mommy says YAY!!!)

5:30 – 7:00 PM – Beanie plays with Chris while I cook dinner

7:00 – 8:00 PM – Beanie usually falls asleep for one last little cat nap while Mom and Dad eat dinner

8:00 PM – Bath time, diaper change, get in jammies

8:30 PM – 6 oz. bottle, rocking with Mom

9:00 PM – Bedtime

Its a little different every day, but that’s the general outline of our days.   Oh, man.   I’m gonna miss that when I go back to work next week.   Have I mentioned that yet?   That I don’t want to go back to work?   Did I tell you that?

DON’T MAKE ME GO!!!

(sob, sob, snort, hiccup, sob, snort, hiccup)

I lurk on your blog more frequently than I comment, but I want you to know every day I come on to read your new post, I click on a random couple ads in hopes that you don’t have to go back to work! You seem like you are a great mom to the Bean…how did you figure out this schedule yourself? Just based on what other moms do?

I am sorry the day you have to go back to work is so near. I remember coming back to work right after I had my daughter last summer. It was hard, but after we got into the schedule of school it was nice. My daughter is very attached to me, I mean she will not go to her dad (or anyone) if I am holding her except at daycare where she pushes me away. She loves going in and playing with all the other babies. As he gets bigger and you see him playing with the other children you will also feel better about daycare.

Good luck on your first day back! And remember to be prepared for him to get several colds- my daughter got RSV 🙁
There are just more germs at daycare.

Awe Katie, I’ll be praying for you! I can’t imagine how hard it will be either. My dh and I are ttc currently and I already dread going back to work afterward our first is born. But I don’t want to live on welfare either! lol

Katie, I am seriously upset FOR you. I know it will be hard, but you can do it, you can do it, you can do it (just keep chanting that). I am thinking about you as you ease into your new routine. And I’ll send some kleenex and a bouquet of flowers your way….

Why are you going back to work so soon?
It’s only been two months, hasn’t it? Don’t new parents get at least 6 months parental each?

Ha! I wish we got 6 months each! We get as many days as our company gives us off work. I had fifty something that I could take paid. I’m legally allowed to take something like 3 months, but it would have to be unpaid for whatever portion I didn’t have days off from my company. Does that makes sense?

Great schedule for the little guy! We are not even that good (Henry is 3 months). He does like to take two long naps (1 1/2 hour each) and usually cat-naps in 20-30 minute segments through the day- usually while I run errands. I’m clicking on ads too- and telling EVERYONE about your site in hopes that you can become like Dooce! 🙂

  • Jenn

How do you get him to take such long naps during the day??
Daisy is the same age and WILL NOT sleep for more than 40-50minutes at a time.
    Your schedule looks great!

Man that sucks. Here in Canada it’s a mandatory paid 6mths or 1 year for the mom. (6mths if both mom and dad take time off, to be staggered). What you said made sense, don’t worry, it just sounds like a horrible deal.

I CRIED the first day I dropped my son off at daycare. Who am I kidding? I cried the first WEEK! Then my schedule changed and my husband drops him off. My husband is out of town this week so I have been dropping him off again, and I cried when I had to drop him off! My son is 14 months old!
