A CAR RIDE! WE’RE GOING ON A CAR RIDE!
When I was in middle school the movie Homeward Bound came out. I don’t remember anything about that movie except that this one big, stupid, floppy dog loved cars and whenever his owners got in a car he would start bouncing all around yelling, “A CAR RIDE! WE’RE GOING ON A CAR RIDE!”
That’s exactly what I’m doing right this moment.
We spent all night last night packing our car for a very lonnnng car ride. We’re heading to Virginia to my sister’s house where my entire family will converge to eat turkey, cut down Christmas trees, drink cider, and blubber Beanie’s belly. Oh, MAN! I am so freaking excited!
But before we can get there to join the festivities, we must drive.
Oh, the drive.
Its about a 10-hour car ride for us and since Chris is working today, we can’t leave until about 2:00 PM. When you add in time for Beanie’s diaper changes, bottles, stretching, etc., that puts us in Virginia around 2:00 AM.
And did I mention that Bean hates the car? As in cries the entire time he’s in one?
Yep. Its gonna be awesome.
If you’re visiting family and friends this week by plane, train, or automobile – be safe! I can’t have nothin’ happening to my readers out there! Be patient as you travel and remember that it is more important to get there in one piece than it is to get there on time!

Good luck and be safe! I live in a country full of insanely crazy drivers who are aggressive, weaving, honking, flashing tailgaters who speed excessively. Its pretty bad and your nerves tend to fray very quickly when you’re behind the wheel. The best thing I ever heard someone say about this kind of behaviour is that they would rather be 5 minutes late in this world than 5 minutes early in the next. Happy Thanksgiving!

Claps for you doing the trip in one shot. We split up our 8 hour trip to Maine with a hotel stay. After hour 4, Nate makes it abundantly clear that it’s time to get out. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

My daughter is 4, she still hates the car. Has cried all through every car ride EVER. It is hell going anywhere, now not only does she cry, she kicks my son, or takes his legos and makes him yell at her.

I love holiday car rides. I love the anticipation and honestly sometime long car rides are some of the best quality time my husband and I spend together. We don’t have a stereo in are car and so we talk the whole way. But we don’t have a crying baby so I’m sure that changes things. Have a happy Thanksgiving!
