Operation BWYP: Family Festival of Fun

This past weekend, the theater where Chris works teamed up with my favorite place on earth and presented the Target Family Theater Festival, so my mom and grandma came over and we took Bean up to the festival to cheer on Daddy while he worked.  It was Chris’ first big function at this theater and it was such a hit!  The festival had tents set up on the lawn outside of the theater and each tent had a kid-friendly activity.

Bean really loved the drum tent.  They had all these percussion instruments out that kids could bang on and beat.  There were bells to ring and tambourines to shake.  Bean even played with a rain maker!  What he loved the most were these big tubes in different sizes that made different noises when you banged them.  Naturally, it took about 2.5 seconds before these became swords.

After we played outside for a while, Bean cooled down with Nana in the mister tents.  Being the water bug that he is, the mister tents might have been Bean’s favorite part!

When the heat got us, we headed inside where there were characters to see, balloon animals to make, faces to paint, and snacks to eat.  Chris even snuck a little time in to come over and say hello.

The main attraction at the festival were several free kids shows for children of all ages.  They were about 30 minutes each and involved singing and dancing and storytelling and jugglers and all fun things to keep kids entertained.  We took Bean to see one with the children’s musical group, Milkshake.  It was lots of fun.  Bean clapped and danced along and had a great time.

By the time we headed home, Bean was so tired he could hardly keep his eyes open as we walked to the car.

It was a great day with family and I was so proud of how hard Chris worked to make the Festival such a hit for hundreds of children.  Nothing about this day would have been possible if we hadn’t moved to Florida.  Chris wouldn’t have a job that allowed him these kinds of leadership opportunities and we wouldn’t have lived close enough to family to have them share in these things with us.  I’m so glad we’ve planted our roots here and I love seeing us bloom!

I just noticed on Chris’s name tag that his name is Chris Brown… Apparently that’s a very common name… aside from the singer, I know 5 Chris Browns.

    That looks awesome.

    Also?

I thought your mom was you and was about to make a comment on your haircut.

Then I was like, wait, she got her haircut halfway through the festival?

Then I backtracked and realized it was your mom.

Then I wrote it all down in a comment.

    Now we’re here.

I thought you’d like a play by play.

    Dear Katie,

Please refrain from posting current pictures of Michael. Please only post old pictures and then lie to us and tell us they are current. Because, seriously? That kid is growing up too fast. I can’t take it.

    Thanks so much,

Katie–I LOVE that shirt. I remember when you first posted about your new clothes and I fell in love with it. Much to my dismay, it doesn’t exist in the northeast.

Milkshake is awesome! We listen to them all the time in my classroom and my neighbor happens to be close friends with the drummer!

I cannot believe how big he is! I’ve been reading since he was born, and it’s just absolutely amazing how much he has transformed…and how quickly time has gone by!

I think it is amazing the things that happen when you take a leap and follow God, even when things are unknown. Chris looks really relaxed and happy. And Bean…he is one happy camper! He’s turning into such a young man! Gooner is growing as well and sometimes I’m shocked that I have a little girl…not a baby!

I am a music teacher and love using those tubes in my classroom. They are called “Boomwhackers”. Every year I have to remind my kids that if you want to play them you have to “boom” them on the ground and not the “whack” them on someone else!
FYI if you ever feel like buying some they are LEAST annoying instrument that I have found. Unlike recorders, tambourines and xylophone which wear on your nerves after 100 kids play them during the day.
    🙂
