Christmas Gift Idea: Mary Kay Products

When I was about 13 years old, my birthday party was a Mary Kay make over party.  It was so much fun.  A consultant came out and spent the afternoon with about 10 teenage girls doing things like skin care, make up, and perfume samplings.  I remember we each had our own mirror (with lights!) set up on the kitchen table and then we all got to try all the products.  It was a ton of fun.  Since then, Mary Kay has been near and dear to my heart.

Well, there’s that memory and then there’s the one of this beautiful, redheaded woman who went to our church growing up who drove a baby pink Cadillac with a bumper sticker that said something like, “Mary Kay bought me this car!”  She was such a lovely woman – inside and out – and she was a Mary Kay beauty consultant.  I remember thinking every Sunday when that car pulled into the church parking lot, “I want to be just like Mrs. Dreadin when I grow up…”

So, imagine my extreme delight when my sister called me last month and announced that she had become a Mary Kay beauty consultant herself!  She has a full-time job still, but she’s doing Mary Kay on the side and I couldn’t be happier.  I’m a Mary Kay junkie.  I think it’s the soft pink compacts that their make up comes in.  It makes me think of Steel Magnolias for some reason.

Pink is my signature color.

Lordy, how I loved Shelby in that movie.  When she has that stroke or whatever at the end and her husband comes home to find her unconscious with her son sitting next to her crying?  Well, there just aren’t enough tissues in the world for that scene.  And when her mother starts screaming at the cemetery?  And then Clairee shoves Weezer out and says, “HERE!  HIT WEEZER!”  Oh, I die a thousand hysterical deaths.  Or how about when Annelle says with so much conviction, “Sammy Wayne Desoto, what is that in my Frigidaire?”  Ahhh….what a movie…

Wait, what was I saying?

Oh, that’s right.  Mary Kay.

I love Mary Kay products for gifts because they have a bajillion and one price points.  You can give away a cute little lip gloss sampler to a little cousin or sister or best friend.  Or you could go all out on a $100 complete make up kit for your mom.  The smaller little stocking stuffer gift kits make great gifts for childcare providers, mail deliverer ladies, your nail tech, your hair stylist, or babysitters.  Also, if you have teenage daughters, the nail polish makes great stocking stuffers.  My mom always puts little Mary Kay products in mine and my sister’s stockings every year and I love them!

So, to celebrate this fantastic new gig my sister has started, she my has kindly offered a $50 product giveaway today and the product that she’s giving away is the exact one that I would recommend for a Christmas present.  It’s the Mary Kay Satin Hands Pampering Set.  It’s a three-step process to make your hands deeeevinely soft.

Step 1: Use the Fragrance-Free Satin Hands® Hand Softener to help maintain skin’s natural moisture.
Step 2: Cleanse and exfoliate with one pump of Fragrance-Free Satin Hands® Satin Smoothie® Hand Scrub and warm water.
Step 3: Apply a small amount of Fragrance-Free Satin Hands® Hand Cream for instant moisturization for up to 24 hours.

Don’t your hands feel softer just reading about it?  But the great news is that you don’t have to just read about it.  You can win a full set of your very own – or to give as a Christmas present this year (we won’t tell that you regifted…).  To enter to win, tell me what make up product you cannot leave home without applying.  Mine would have to be mascara.  If I don’t wear it, I look like a ghost.  The giveaway will close Thursday at 8:00 PM EST and a winner will be announced on Friday.

Also, don’t forget that if you’re interested in Mary Kay products, you can place an order through my sister’s website and have it shipped to you by Christmas. Think of her as the Mary Kay elf. In pink. Driving a Cadillac. Click here to visit her website. There is contact information on her site if you’d like to contact her about getting free samples or placing an order.  She just looooves to give stuff away, so reach out!

And while you’re browsing around, pick up a little somethin’ for yourself.  Nothing says Merry Christmas like a ruby red nail polish on your toes!

Other than expecting a slightly larger gift than normal at Christmas this year, I was not compensated for this giveaway.  My sister is just sharing the Mary Kay love.  And shamelessly promoting her new website.  The End.

I cannot live without lip balm/gloss. I hate when my lips are chapped so I try to keep balm or gloss on them at all times.

  • Amy S.

I love Mary Kay products. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I really was interested in trying some things, now I’ll never be able to switch.

  • Nate's Mom

Since becoming a mom, makeup has become something that sits on my dresser and collects dust. However – I can’t live without lip balm because these cold Connecticut days are brutal. Also, hand lotion, also because of the aforementioned weather. Go, Ginny! She’d totally rock a pretty pink car! 🙂

  • Lisa

For me it has to be some form of eye makeup or I look so pale and sick going out. That and some chapstick for those cold Canadian winters.

  • Sandy

CHAPSTICK! i am seriously considering having it surgically applied to my lips to save me the trouble of applying it a thousand times a day =o)

  • Whitney

I can’t leave the house without mascara either! I don’t wear any other makeup but as I’m getting older I’m think I may want to start.

  • Kara

I am a Mary Kay junky! I’ve moved several times and my first order of business at a new place is to find a Mary Kay dealer. I love, love, love their medium coverage foundation and never leave without it.

  • Courtney

I recently discovered Mary Kay through a friend. I love it. I haven’t bought Satin Hands (yet) but it’s amazing.
To answer your question, Chapstick, cherry flavored. I keep 2 in my purse and 3 in different parts of the house. Sometimes I go crazy and apply the mint because it tingles. My name is Courtney and I’m a Chapstick addict.

  • Nikki

I don’t wear too much make-up, but after long nights I definitely have to put some mascara on to look awake! I never wear lipstick or gloss, but I can’t be more than two feet away from chapstick!

  • Sarah H.

    Moisturizer and mascara.

Even though 99% of the time I don’t leave the house without foundation, bronzer, eyeliner, eyeshadow, mascara, etc–I’m just that kind of person.

  • JenniferLO

I can’t live without chapstick and mascara!! I just bought 4 new tubes of chapstick last night because mine have all seemed to disappear!

  • KatieO

I LOVE my Mary Kay skin care products. My skin has decided to be super sensitive, and MK products are the only ones who tame it down. The one product I can’t leave home without? The lip balm. Definitely.

  • Mellen

I can’t leave the house without some nail polish on…even if it is clear. I just feel better if my nails aren’t naked!

  • Laura Cochran

I’ve been rocking the “frumpy mom” look since my son was born last year. Last week was the first time I put on makeup since he was born! But I guess I’d have to say my L’Oreal Mineral Powder Foundation. Easy to apply, and instantly polished!

  • El

I absolutely cannot leave teh house without putting on moisturizer with sunscreen in it. I have fair skin and live in Florida! For makeup, I have to put on concealer to cover the circles under my eyes – being pregnant and having a 2 year old wears me out.

  • Katie M

My must have make up is bronzer… = instant tan! And living in Southern California, I’ve gotta keep up with the Joneses (or the tan Real Houswives…)

  • Catherine

Probably my Burt’s Bees tinted chapstick, but I’m also an eyeliner addict. Not heavy eyeliner, but because I have blond (read: invisible) bottom eyelashes, I look completely different with eyeliner on. It’s a must!

  • taralee

i just watched steel magnolias for the first time this fall. i was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes 10 years ago, and definitely had to be in an emotionally healthy season to watch it. i did enjoy it, but was rather emotional for a while afterward. i LOVED hearing that the playwright wrote it in honor of his sister dying of T1, and described the community surrounding his mother and sister during an obviously difficult time.

    thanks for sharing!

  • Anne Cooper

It depends on the time of year. As a general rule, eye liner . I look asleep without it. But at this time of year, I have to put lotion my hands on or I’m miserable!

  • allison

I can’t leave home without mascara either! I can skip everything else, but the mascara is definitely necessary. 🙂

  • Ashley

I actually don’t wear makeup except for a few times a year, but when I do, I have to wear eyeliner. And it has to be Lancome’s liquid liner.
I LOVE their satin hands set! It’s the best thing ever.

  • Laci

I can’t pick just one….I always, no matter what I’m doing or where I’m going, have to put on eyeliner and lip gloss. Always.

  • Sherine

I cannot leave the house without mascara and moisturizer. Without them my eyes feel naked and my skin feels dry!

  • Cathy C.

I need a little powder to even out my complexion and mascara never hurt. Other than that, I try not to wear too much.

  • Ali

I need my eyebrows to be perfectly plucked! I feel that just getting rid of one or two straggles underneath opens my face right up, and I can be expressive with my eyebrows, and I mostly just feel beautiful if I know my eyebrows look good.

  • Kathy Sanderson

Toothpaste? I don’t wear make-up, but I don’t leave without brushing my teeth! I also use a lot of lotion in the winter. My skin goes all Sahara on me this time of year.

  • Jaclyn

My mom used Mary Kay when I was growing up because there was a really awesome consultant in the area whom we kinda became friends with — that was some of my first makeup. And my best friend actually JUST became a Mary Kay consultant last week! So funny!

  • Will's Mama

Not sure there are any products I can’t live without… probably lip gloss would be the closest thing. I did just start using Mary Kay cleanser and moisturizer though, and love it!

  • Kimberly

It would be mascara for me too. My eyelashes are so light if I don’t put anything on. Curse of red hair and fair skin.

  • Jordan

Well, I often leave the house without makeup, but if I am putting some on, mascara is my #1 can’t be without thing.

  • Tanya

Burt’s Bees lip balm. I’m a nurse so makeup for work is very low on my priority list but I hate dry lips! I love the Burt’s Bees because it doesn’t have a funky taste to it : )

  • sarah

I can’t go out in public without mascara either. If I look like I’m sick because I’m so freaking washed out and pasty looking.

  • Amy @ Serve At Once

My sister was once a Mary Kay consultant, so I decided to jumpstart her illustrious career by purchasing $150 of proucts (obviously, I love my sister VERY much :D).

I LOVE the Satin Hands set! Even in the dead middle of winter, my hands feel soft and well-moisturized. It’s instant rejuvenation. I also love their lip exfoliant; instantly smooth lips.

    God bless you, Mary Kay.

  • Cristina L-S

Powder and blush. I am too pale and ghostly without a little bit of blush at bare minimum. I can skip the lips and lashes if I’m running late, but never some color on my cheeks.

  • Heather in ND

I have been SO lazy about makeup lately, so I would say moisturizer– the stuff in the tub that you recommended a while back. I used to LOVE Mary Kay products, but my eyes did NOT love Mary Kay products. It was not very pretty and I was very sad!!!

  • Rachel

Carmex (lip balm). I buy the tubes in a 3 pack… one in my purse, one in the cubby of my car, one in my dresser, one in the kitchen, you get the picture. =) Also don’t go to bed @ night without applying it first. I don’t ever wear lipstick, just carmex. North Dakota winters bring dry lips!

  • Katy Shaw

I am not a person that must apply makeup before leaving home…but if I have the time I use powder and blush. But I could really use something for my dry hands right now…got to love winter in Ohio!!

  • Jami

Hi! I love your blog and find so much in common with you, as I am married and a mom to my sweet 18 month old son. Anyway, I can’t leave the house without foundation and mascara!

  • erin

This is so funny that you are featuring this set, because a coworker gave it to me a couple years aog and I LOVED it. Of course, it’s gone now, so I would love to win. 🙂 I can’t leave the house without chapstick in my pocket and mascara on my eyes. 🙂

  • Katie M

um..do contacts count? Or a hair tie? Seriously, since I had my daughter I’m lucky if I’ve got a shirt on!

  • Allison

I’d have to say mascara as well. Even if I’m running late and can only do one thing, I take to time to throw some on my eyelashes.
