Your Inner Fake Fashionista
I would not consider myself a fashionista. As much as I love shopping, I don’t really spend a lot of time thinking about my wardrobe or what I’m wearing. Easy, casual, and comfortable are my main criteria.
BUT.
Last week I was visiting my BFF’s blog, The Pioneer Woman, and she shared a website she had recently found. It was called Polyvore and it was a website where you could create your own style creations. I read her post, but didn’t really think too much about it. But tonight I was sitting on my couch trying to relax my stupid back which is protesting my pregnancy by seizing up on me. There wasn’t anything on TV. Bean was sleeping. Chris was working late. And I found myself surfing the internet.
And actually, that might surprise you, too. I’m not a big internet surfer person. You’d think that being a blogger, I’d know my way around Internet Land pretty well. But not really. I tend to go to the same handful of websites and don’t venture too far from those. But I was feeling frisky. So I strolled on over to Polyvore.com to see what all the fuss was about.
Oh. My. Goodness.
I became instantly addicted to this website. I thought it would be complicated to create your own fashion sets, but it is so darn easy! And fun! And the blogger in me loves that you can publish your creations so that everyone can see them.
When I was in high school and college, my sister and I would go to the mall or into a store and we’d give each other missions. Like, “You’re going to an evening wedding on a yacht off the coast of Maine. Go!” and then we’d have to put together an outfit for that event. (Full Confession: We did this mostly with baby clothes. “You’re taking your daughter to the Nutcracker for the first time. Go!”) This website reminded me of that. In fact, there were so many choices of outfits to put together that I had to find some way to organize myself and so I started giving myself missions. Here’s what I came up with:
SATURDAY SHOPPING WITH THE GIRLS:
SUNDAY BRUNCH IN SANTA MONICA WITH MY BFF, EMILY:
MEETING WITH A VERY IMPORTANT CLIENT:
And my personal favorite…
SUMMER COCKTAIL PARTY IN NEW YORK CITY:
I mean, it’s the most fun website ever. You can go to my page and see all my creations or you can go to the homepage and see other people’s collections or you can create your own (to share with others or to keep private – you decide).
It’s Tuesday. What good are Tuesdays? Anything critical, you got done on Monday. Anything you’re planning for you can do on Wednesday. Tuesdays are for playing online. We all know it. So go forth, my children, and create style. Find your inner fake fashionista and, if you’re so inclined, come back here and post a link to your profile in the comments section so we can all go check out your style.
Happy Tuesday!

Today I am grateful that Bean is feeling better.

The more fun part would be being able to afford most of the stuff that’s on there! 🙂

*drools over handbags and shoes* Gorgeous! I’ve never thought I’d be very good at putting together things like this, but I love seeing others’ creations: I love your shopping outfit & the summer cocktail party 🙂 I’m definitely headed over there at some point today!

I love your choices!! Very elegant.
Katy @ MonsterProof
I’ve been avoiding the site b/c I somehow think it would prove that I’m even unfashionable when the tools are provided. Those look great!
Life of a Doctor's Wife

I’m ready, Santa Monica is ready, I can rustle up a sassy outfit in no time – just waiting on you and your little monster(s)! PS, I swear I’ll send your Christmas presents soon – I have no excuse but complete procrastination and unhealthy anxiety towards the post office.

That first outfit is especially fabulous. I’m not a bracelet girl, but this makes me want to be!

I saw your tweets about this the other day and at first I was thinking, this doesn’t look fun. But then I tried it and OH. MY. GOD!!! I loooove it. My favorite part is that two of my favorite stores, H&M and Delia’s, are on there (I’m a college student). I get my refund check next week and I’m pretty much planning my shopping spree. lol

Oh my- this might be a new addiction of mine. I just spent an hour playing around on there! I love your outfits and I had to laugh because 2 of your sets have shoes that I own and wear constantly (so then I just felt a tiny bit cool for half a sec that someone else likes them as well)
Michelle
Super cute outfits… except for “meet with client”. Nobody should ever wear *those* heels to the office. Unless of course you run a brothel, and then the rest of my outfit might be too conservative. LOL
