The Switch

Chris went to Yale for graduate school and one of the things I loved most about Yale was its motto. It was printed on everything and I thought it was so regal. So classic. So majestic.

For God, for country, and for Yale.”

In our house, we have a similar motto.

For God, for country, and for Mr. Bear.”

Yep, around our house, you don’t get much more superior than Mr. Bear. He’s been Bean’s right hand man since the day he was born. Literally. And I don’t see that changing any time soon.

Because Bean has always been so attached to Mr. Bear, we have worried about what would happen if Mr. Bear ever got lost. Or, God forbid, had to take a time out for a bath. How would Bean survive without him? Thankfully, Nana came through. Last year, she randomly came across the exact same bear in a store as she was shopping. We think Mr. Bear has actually been discontinued because we haven’t been able to find him anywhere, so when she saw one sitting on the shelf, she immediately bought it. We’ve kept the fake Mr. Bear on a shelf in Bean’s closet for over a year now, just in case we ever need to bring him out in an emergency.

This past weekend, Chris and I decided it was time to wash Mr. Bear. He gets a bath (in our washing machine) every month or so, but he was long over due.  This meant that we’d have to trade out the original Mr. Bear for the fake Mr. Bear without Bean noticing.

I said Bean wouldn’t be able to tell the difference. Chris said Bean would realize the switch. Then I busted out the video camera. And my English accent.

PART ONE:

PART TWO:

I win.
