The Best Idea of 2011

Hi, I’m Katie and I’m a Pinterest addict.

But, at least I don’t Pinterest alone. I am here to share with you what I find, whether you want to hear about it or not. You are supporting my Pinterest habit. Thank you for your contribution to my non-existent social life.  (My user name is MarriageConfess, by the way…)

Anyway, the other day I was browsing through the household goods pins (I have become so good at my addiction that I can now hone in on what I’m looking for by using the “Search” box at the top of the website…) and I came across this brilliant idea for storing cleaning products.

We have been contemplating our cleaning products lately. Odd, yes. But it’s been a problem. We store them under our kitchen sink, but with two little ones running around, we’ve been wanting to move them somewhere else. But where? And then I found this…

It’s a shoe hanger for your closet door that you put your cleaning supplies in! BRILLIANT! I immediately went out and bought a shoe hanger for $6 from Target and hung it on our closet door in our foyer. It hangs over the door and is so inconspicuous that you would never even know it was there.

I love this for the obvious storage reasons, but I love it even more because not only does it lift everything away from the kids (that closet door has a child latch on it, so they couldn’t get in there anyway), but it makes it so much easier to see what cleaning supplies I have. I am always on my hands and knees, digging around to find the 409 or to see if we need more Windex. But now, one look at my door will tell me what I need and what I have. So simple! I even used the bottom two rows of pockets to hold things like our trash bags, plastic grocery bags, dust cloths and rags, and plastic cleaning gloves.

I have found so many things I love on Pinterest, but this might be at the top of my list for 2011. Such a great, practical, cheap, simple idea for making life easier!

I wanted to link to the actual blog post that originally posted this idea to give the girl credit, but I couldn’t find the post on her blog. So, here’s the link to her homepage instead. Go visit her and tell her how brilliant she is!

I used the same organizer for in our bathroom closet and I LOVE it. No one was every able to put the bandaids away, and this has taken care of that problem. I have everything from bandaids to first aid creme to fingernail polish remover and sunscreen. Was definitely my best organizational effort in 2011.

brilliant! Oh Pinterest, is there anything you can’t do? I’m seriously addicted as well. There are so many awesome ideas on there. If I could just win the lottery, I have my dream house already planned in picture form.

What a wonderful idea! That would work perfectly on the back of the door to my laundry room.

I’m seriously addicted to Pinterest as well. My username is PinkPutter.

We use a shoe organizer on the back of our bathroom door for all of our toiletries–toothpaste, lotions, Q-tips,etc. They are so super convenient! Love this idea!

I have one of those in every closet in my house. The one in my bedroom is for shoes, but the one in the coat closet is for hats and gloves and sunscreen and bugspray. The one in my pantry is my kitchen junk drawer. The one in my son’s room used to store baby items like wipes and socks, but now it holds all kinds of random kid stuff that would otherwise be scattered around the house. These organizers are the best ever!!!

    I wish I had a closet door!
My favorite pintrest find is the different variations of the pretzel, chocolate, m&m treats! I never did find the start shaped pretzels for Christmas though….

I used those for all kids little crap also. Beanie babies? You may not remember those but they were everywhere for about 10 years. My girl’s was full of pretty much just those and hair bands, but my son’s was full of cars and video games.

Can’t resist the opportunity to note that as you move to all non-toxic and natural cleaners it is much less of a worry for the kids…and better for everyone in the house. Regardless of what cleaners you have though, this is a great idea. We use the same one for shows because it becomes a fun activity to put shoes away for 2 year old Dante…I have a 2 year old who is a shoe addict!

This is a really clever idea. if I see one of these in store I will buy it asap. My only fear is that it doesn’t look very stable on the door. Does it stay in place? Or does the product swing out as you open the door? Also, what kind of latch do you have on your closet door?

Hi Katie!!! Im as a Pinterest addict and we happen to feed each others obsessive pinning! Love this post! And the post about the middle of the night craziness…happens at my house often. There is ALWAYS someone in MY house in the middle of the night…except, not really. My husband? Not so happy to go chase the boogie man. Doesnt he know its his JOB??? Men!

I just got onto pinterest yesterday andI’m going to have to put parental controls on it for myself so I don’t live on it 24/7. Anyway, I have seen so many uses for those over the door shoe holders, it’s mind boggling. Wish I’d invented them!! I’ve also come to the conclusion that we should just get rid of below the counter cabinets. Though I am short and have to use the open bottom cabinet to step up tall enough to reach the upper shelves in the top cabinets, I find it highly annoying to root around in the lower cabinets looking for anything. K-ster is a foot taller and REALLY hates rooting around, so he opens the door and looks, and if he can’t see it, it’s not there. When he puts things away, he just tosses it from above, not bothering to squat down. So when they figure out how to make over the door pans/cookie sheets holders, I’m all on it!

I do this too.. and have used it for my spices on my pantry door.. my daughter does it for cleaning and also in her bathroom for things used there.. great idea!!

Great idea! I actually went out and bought this for the door for our storage room. Our storage room is huge and houses our washer and dryer, which means we go in it a lot. He hates that it bangs against the door every time he closes it, but I’m sure he’ll get over it!
