Dear Pookey,

Welcome to your 30’s!  I can’t believe that we have actually been together for half our lives now.  In some ways that feels impossible.  I still get butterflies when you kiss me, I still smile when I get a text from you, I still giggle inside when someone says “Mrs. Brown.”   But in other ways, it feels like I have known you my whole life.  Maybe that is because anything of real importance began when you took my hand for the first time over 15 years ago.  I think I knew even back then that you and I would one day have the life that we are living now.  I just didn’t know how much I would love this life.  I didn’t know how special it would feel to be your wife, how full my heart would be when I saw you with our kids, or how rich our life would seem even when our bank account didn’t agree.

I know there are lots of things we don’t have.  We dream of things we want, places we want to visit, dreams we want to accomplish, but the truth is that if none of those things ever happened – if this life today, here and now – was all that we ever had, I would still have everything because I have you.  Everything else is icing on the birthday cake.

Here’s to your next 30 years, sweetheart.  If they are half as good as the first 30, then I think you’re in for a wild ride!

Your Kate
