2:30am

Our kids have always been good sleepers.  They sleep through the night, and for the most part they get 11-12 hours of sleep every night.  But lately, Gracie has started this disturbing trend.  At 2:30am, on the dot, she comes into our bedroom and stares at me until I wake up.  And she has a ton of different reasons to be awake:

1. I have to go to the bathroom.

2. Bunny has to go to the bathroom.

3.  I need a drink of water.

4.  I just got a a drink of water.

5.  My covers fell off my bed.  When I pushed them.

6.  There’s too many covers on my bed.

7.  This boo boo from three days ago really hurts all of a sudden.

8.  I can’t find my socks.

9.  I don’t want to wear my socks anymore.

10. I want to wear different pajamas.

11.  I thought I heard a noise.

12.  I didn’t  hear anything and thought everyone had left.

13.  My baby doll was crying.  (That one freaked me out.)

14.  I’m hungry.

15.  I’m full.

16.  I miss Nana.

17.  I miss Grandmomma.

18.  Where did the birdies go?

19.  I want to go swimming.

20.  I’m hot.

21.  I’m cold.

22.  I can’t find my crayons.

23.  Michael is being mean.  (Michael was sound asleep.)

24.  My head hurts.

25. My shoulders hurt.

26. My elbows hurt.

27.  I need to cut my fingernails.

28.  My tummy hurts.

29.  My knees hurt.

30.  My feet hurt.

31.  My band aid fell off.

32.  Can I have a baby sister?  (That one got a resounding, “NOPE!” from my supposedly sleeping husband…)

33.  When are we going to school?

34.  I need a spoon.

35.  I can’t find my pants.

I could go on, but I think you get the idea.  I don’t know why she keeps doing this. We never let her stay. She always has to go lay back down in her own bed. But, apparently, 2:30am is the time to place all your customer service calls for Gracie.

A few nights ago, I tried putting the baby gate up to keep her in her room, but she appeared next to my bed at 2:30am and said, “There’s a baby gate on my door.”

Does it scare the crap out you? My daughter used to just stand over the side of the bed and Lord knows how long she would stand there until my body would sense someone was there and I would jump up in the air!

My daughter does this. I decided to let her stay one night in my bed and I ended up getting a better sleep. Sometimes I think she’s just lonely and needs me. Other times I think she just needs to go back to bed and let me sleep! Mamas tired!!!
    Gracie is too cute. Lol

Oh man, I would jump out of my skin! I remember reading on another mom’s blog that her son had a hard time staying in bed. In fact, I’ve worried about my kids doing this so I filed it away in my brain. Anyway, she read advice in Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child to just take him straight back to bed – no talking, no interaction, no eye contact even, if possible. It only took two nights! Dunno if that would help, but just throwing it out there.

She might be teething. My daughter got really irritable and not sleeping well around her third birthdau, which was really unusual for her. I checked her mouth, she was getting 4 molars at the same time!

My two-year-old is a night wanderer too. He doesn’t do the stare thing, thankfully. Most of the time he just curls into a little ball at my feet and I don’t notice he’s there until I wake up the next morning. Sometimes he’ll come tell me he wet the bed or something like that. This morning he woke me up at 2.00 to tell me he was there, curled up at my feet, and started throwing up on my legs. Ugh. He got a bath and put back into his bed while my husband changed our sheets. Aren’t kids fun?!?!

This is NOT making me excited to switch Natalie from her crib to her toddler bed when she turns 3 in 2 months…. oh well. Glad to know my toddler is not the only one who all of a sudden has toe pain, etc that warrants waking us all up!

And yes, the baby gate is hysterical. I can just see her confusion and then working it out, climbing over it to go tell you about it.

It reminds me of the time my parents told me to go catch a fly (in an effort to have some alone time) and I came back 5 minutes later with a fly in hand 🙂 I think you could call that a determined diva.

    I. AM. DYING!!!!!!!

All of those had me laughing but this one really got me:

“My covers fell off my bed. When I pushed them.” HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I just love kids…they are hilarious. These are the times you’ll look back on and wish she was still waking you up at 2:30 in the morning 🙂 At least, that’s what I tell myself when Brooke has woken me up for the 17,000th time in the night when she wants to nurse 🙂
