Is This Blog-worthy? I Think Yes.

This past Sunday, I wanted to be outside so, so, so badly.  It was beautiful!  It was Palm Sunday!  The pool was gorgeous!  The sun was shining!  Friends were texting me about splash parks!  Oh, how I wanted to go play!

But this is how my family ended up eating Beenie Weenies out of a can and wearing mixed matched socks last week.

When the weather gets good ’round these here parts, I become a bum of a housemaid.  I stop cleaning, cooking, laundering (clothes, not money) (not that I launder money) (I don’t) (great, now the FBI is reading my blog) (not that that’s a problem) (nothing to hide here, FBI).  I stop all housework because the sun is too pretty to stay inside.  But, good weather or bad, we need food in our bellies and clothes on our backs, so I had to be responsible this weekend and stay home to do chores.

BUT!  I did discover the coolest thing ever about my kids growing up!  They can play without me having to sit with them all the time!  I mean, I’ve known that for a while, but last summer, I had to stay on them constantly outside.  They were little and I couldn’t just send them outside to play.

They are bigger this year and, while I still can’t just let them roam outside without me because of our pool, I learned this weekend that they can hang out on the deck now without me having to hover over them.

I threw open the doors to our deck and set up our water table where I could see it from the living room, and then they could play in the water outside while I folded laundry and did the dishes.

I realize this may not seem like it is a big deal to most of you.  OH BUT IT IS!  This means I can actually DO TWO THINGS AT ONCE NOW!  It was amazing!  Though, I spent the whole time I was folding laundry looking out the window and whimpering because I couldn’t go out there and play, too.  Still, I got my chores done so quickly because the kids weren’t asking me 10,000 questions while I tried to work and they got to play and wear themselves out, too.

IT WAS A WIN FOR MOTHERHOOD TODAY, FRIENDS!

And that is absolutely blog-worthy.

Totally blog worthy! I’ll celebrate with you and love vicariously through you knowing this will be us maybe next summer. That and it’s snowing in Chicago. Can we pitch a tent in your backyard for a month or so?

Definitely a huge step in motherhood… our new house has a HUGE backyard, and we got a trampoline…. so there are days when I don’t “see” my kids for HOURS… of course i check on them.. but for the most part… its glorious… 🙂

Awe! That is totally blog worthy!! Since we don’t have a pool I too have been slowly letting go and sending my boys outside to play…alone! It makes my day so much easier and more fun else them!

Because of the way our house sits on our lot, I can’t really see the kids well from anywhere in the house. BUT we are MOVING! And our new house has a patio right off the back door (what a concept, right?) and I will be able to do exactly this. I can’t wait!

That sounds amazing! I dream about the day my son can play by himself for twenty minutes while I get dinner ready. For now though, I am amazing at one-handed cooking. And I LOVE the deck. I remember when you guys were putting it in and it looks so beautiful!
