I Knew She’d Be My Girl

When I found out I was having a baby girl, I pictured Gracie.

Before I knew her name.  Before I saw my first ultrasound.  Before I heard her speak.  I pictured Gracie.

I pictured a strong-willed girl, like her momma.  Someone who had her own ideas, her own sense of self.  A girl who argued because she believed that strongly, and listened because she loved that much.

I pictured a feisty, fiery girl with a head full of knowledge and information, and a heart bursting with happiness and laughter.

Gracie will turn four-years-old in a few weeks, and, while it breaks my heart that she is growing up, I am also full of joy as I watch her grow into this perfect little girl.  The one I pictured so long ago.  She is everything I could have ever wanted in a daughter.

She is everything I knew she would be.
