Happenings and Shenanigans

This week has been one of those weeks where you turn around and say, “Where have the days gone?!”  I can’t believe it’s almost Friday already!  What have I done?  Where have I been? What year is it?  In case you missed any of it, here’s what has been happening in my world:

1.  The kids started swimming lessons again.  Bean did great, as we expected.  That kid is a natural swimmer.  He’s like a fish.  I check behind his ears every night for gills.  Gracie did really great, too!  That one was a little bit UNexpected.  She’s not a fan of getting her face wet… or her hair wet… or her bathing suit wet… So, I was a little worried about her.  But she jumped in and did it without a tear or a tantrum.  YAY!  I’ll take more pictures at her next lesson because they are using this really next swimming contraption thingy in the water with her, and I kind of want one in our pool now.

2. The kids killed it with cuteness this Easter, even though Bean didn’t wear anything I bought for him to wear on Easter morning to church. I’m not exactly sure what happened with that. I laid his clothes out, Chris and Bean went into Bean’s room to get ready, and when he came out, he was wearing something completely different than what I picked. It was definitely NOT worth the fight (even though I bought him this gorgeous new shirt that matched Gracie’s dress and would have been adorable… Maybe the boys vetoed it because I used words like “gorgeous” and “adorable” when I described it…)

We also had tears Easter morning because Gracie wanted to wear her blue, velvet Cinderella gloves with her dress. I definitely DID NOT let that happen, though she did carry them in her purse to church. In the end, we were all clean, dressed, and heard an amazing sermon on living like “Easter morning Christians.” It was the perfect Easter morning.

That afternoon, we headed to my mom’s house and had Easter lunch with her and my grandma. Later, we hid Easter eggs for the kids and Chris and I stole all of the Reese’s Eggs out of their Easter baskets when they weren’t looking. All in all, it was a pretty good Easter.

3. While we were at my mom’s house, I asked her to teach me how to crochet. Lately, I have been spending WAY too much time on Facebook and Pinterest in the evenings. When the kids go to bed, I sit on the couch with Chris and just pin my life away. I finally decided I needed a hobby. Something I could do while we sat there that would keep me entertained and away from the iPad. So, Mom taught me to crochet!

So far, I’m pretty bad at it. I practiced for a few days by making Gracie a baby doll blanket, but it came out shaped like a trapezoid. She looked at it and then looked back at me like, “What the heck is this?!” But, I think I’m getting better! I’m trying to make a legit baby blanket now for my friend, Sarah. Her baby girl is due in a few weeks, and I’m hoping to have at least SOMETHING finished by then.

Crocheted burp cloths are totally a real thing, right????

4. Monday night we had a scheduling mishap and Gracie ended up at Bean’s tee ball game in full ballet regalia, only to discover that we couldn’t actually make it to ballet. So, basically, she played in the dirt in tights and a tutu for an hour and a half. She didn’t really mind, though. She had two purses full of toys, fruit snacks, and Cinderella gloves. Girlfriend was in heaven.

5. We ended the week by going to Barnes and Noble on a school night. LIVING LARGE! I needed to buy a book for a lesson I was teaching, and heaven forbid we enter a book store and not buy 10,000 books. Okay, more like three books, but STILL. The Barnes and Noble staff are going to start welcoming me and the kids by name. Not that I mind. Spending money on books is never a bad decision.

So says me.

Chris does not agree.

Neither does my bank account.

But who asked them anyway?

6. My imaginary friends blew up the internet with this post I wrote earlier this week. Thank you so much for your support, encouragement, and feedback. It means so much to me that I can run my mouth and vent what’s on my mind and still be embraced by our little community here. I don’t know why you keep coming back here day after day, month after month, and year after year, but I sure am glad you do. Smooches and thanks from me to you. xoxo
