Theology and Other Deep Thoughts With Gracie

Untitled

Gracie came home from VBS and told me this story: “Mom, Jesus was on the planet Africa (“It’s a continent, honey.”) and he had 100 sheep, but he lost one so he went out and found him on the planet Africa (“Still a continent.”). Jesus really loves sheep!”

“So, the earth flooded and Noah put all the animals in the ark to save them,” I said to Gracie.

“Wow,” she said. “Did this happen when you were a baby?”

“No, it happened thousands of years ago.”

“Oh,” Gracie said thoughtfully. “Was Nana there?”

*********

“Mom, I played with my best friend at church tonight,” Gracie said.

“Oh, yeah?” I asked. “What’s her name?”

“I don’t know. Abby or something like that…”

**********

(Overheard in the backseat)

Bean: Gracie, how do you know what equal means???

Gracie: I don’t. I just say it anyway.

**********

“Mommy! I saw two ladybugs and one was climbing on top of the other one!”

“Uhhhh….”

“I know what they were doing!”

“Uhhhh…”

“They were giving each other piggyback rides!!!”

“YES, THEY WERE! YOU ARE RIGHT!”

**********

God is holy and wormy,” Gracie sang.

“I think it’s holy and WORTHY,” corrected Bean.

“NO IT’S NOT!” Gracie screeched before continuing, “Wormy is your name.”

**********

“They are being slow pokes,” Gracie said.  “And we are being fast pokes.”

**********

“Mom,” said Gracie. “Where do babies come from?”

“They come from God.”

“But how does he get them in the mommy’s tummy?”

“Well, it’s just magic.”

“Like, Santa Claus?????”

“Ummm… Yeah.”

“Are Jesus and Santa brothers?”

“I think I have messed up our child,” I whispered to Chris.  “Good thing we have another one.”

Love your sweet girl! I always jot down funny things my kids say – the app “Little Hoots” is awesome for making fun graphics that I then post on FB or Instagram for our family to see. BUT – the real reason I’m commenting is because I’m desperately hoping you’ll post about your favorite kid apps. We’re almost half-way through summer and I need some good, quality, educational-type apps! I’m a former teacher — but so out-of-the-loop when it comes to the best apps! Thanks!

Oh how I’m laughing!! And your baby making conversation made me feel so much better … I leave my son’s room most nights (after tucking him in and attempting to answer his questions) just praying I’m not screwing him up too badly!
