Easter Recap 2017

We have had a glorious Easter today, friends.  I hope your families were able to spend time together, like ours, soaking up God’s love and Ultimate Sacrifice. Chris and I were ushers at one of our church’s services this morning. I was a little worried because Easter has one of the largest turn outs all year, but it turned out to be a perfect day to serve. I loved welcoming people into one of my favorite places on one of my favorite days. Plus, I was checking out all the pretty Easter dresses!

When we got home, I cranked up the kitchen and turned out a big Easter lunch for our family. We had ham, green bean casserole, macaroni and cheese (Pioneer Woman’s recipe, of course!), fresh corn, lima beans (with okra mixed in, a trick I learned from Chris’s grandma – makes the lima beans AND okra taste better…), potato salad, and deviled eggs.

The weirdest thing happened with my eggs, though! I boiled them yesterday and put them in a bowl in the fridge overnight. I planned to make them after church. When I pulled the eggs out of the fridge, they had frozen! I FROZE MY EGGS! I tried putting them in room temperature water to thaw, and they did. But they had this awful egg-y smell and the whites of the eggs were shriveled and wrinkly. And they tasted AWFUL! I don’t know what in the world happened to them or why they froze (maybe they were too close to the ice maker?!), but I had to throw out a dozen frozen eggs and quickly make a dozen more. Which made me thankful that I was a slacker mom and never got around to dying Easter eggs like I planned! I knew being a slacker would pay off eventually!

(My mom and Grandma leave on Friday for Cuba! When I asked what their plans were while they were there, my mom started spouting off her itinerary and my Grandma just yelled, “RUM, RUM, RUM!” They are going to have a great time!)

(Next time someone takes my picture, they need to yell out at me, “Stand up straight!” This picture made me giggle, though, because that’s what my dad always yelled when we took pictures! I can hear him yelling at me now!)

The kids had an Easter egg hunt out in the backyard after lunch. This Easter has been a little nostalgic for me because I’m not sure how many more we’ll have with BOTH the kids believing in the Easter Bunny and wanting to hunt eggs and dye Easter eggs. I think we have a year or two more, I hope, but I am very aware that time is dwindling on these sweet traditions, so I’m soaking them up.

Our Easter eggs have money in them. Some have change and some half one dollar bills. And then there is the GOLDEN EGG, which has $5 in it and it hidden in a really hard place. This tradition comes from Chris’s family, and I love it. So do the kids! They collect eggs like crazy and then add their money up to see who got more. This year, Bean found the Golden Egg, which led to tears from Gracie. Thus is life, Gracie Girl. But she bounced back when she learned that Bean had to clean up the water balloon pieces from their earlier water balloon fight because he won the Golden Egg. Thus is life, Bean Man. 🙂

Our company left by 4:30 or 5:00, which gave our family time to clean up the house a bit and spend some time together (read: nap on the couch). All in all, it was a beautiful day with people I love, and I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our Risen Lord than that.

HAPPY EASTER, FRIENDS!
