When our house was broken into a couple months ago, one of the things that was stolen was my Flip HD video camera. I loved that thing and I didn’t realize how MUCH I loved it until it was gone. I used to carry it around in my diaper bag (also stolen…) and just whip it out whenever I saw Bean doing something funny. It was so convenient!
When they stole my camera, we started using Chris’s iPhone for videos and that was pretty good, too. But it wasn’t nearly as convenient because #1 – I had to ask him for his phone every time I needed it which made me miss a lot of moments I would have caught quickly with my Flip and #2 – if Chris wasn’t around, then there was no video.
Then for my birthday in December, my parents surprised me with a new Flip camera! Now (since I don’t carry a diaper bag anymore), I keep the camera in my purse and it’s been like old times again. I’ve been catching little moments all over the place. Only, I keep forgetting to download them! So, tonight I downloaded all the videos from my camera that I took over Christmas break and I found a few of Bean that were definitely worth sharing.
In this first one, I was cooking when I heard Bean and Molly in Gracie’s nursery. I thought they were playing, so I grabbed the camera to get a video of the cuteness. Only, when I actually got in the room I discovered they weren’t playing at all and that Bean was MAD because Molly was drinking out of his sippy cup!!!
This second video is from just the past weekend. Chris, Bean, and I went to the outlets to exchange a pair of jeans I got him for Christmas. It was a beautiful morning and Bean was in a great mood. Such a good mood, in fact, that the dancing fever overtook him right there on the sidewalk!

A Toddler, A Dog, and Two Golf Clubs

Bean has decided that his plastic golf clubs are his favorite toy right now. He carries them around the house and uses them to point at things, whack things, and push other toys around. I think of them like really big chopsticks.
We’re having to watch closer now because he’s getting a little rough with them, as Big Molly will now demonstrate….

In our little rental house, there isn’t much that is off limits for Bean. Everything is so close together that no matter where he is, I can almost always see him. But there are times when I really need to pay attention to something and I don’t want to have to worry that he is getting into something he shouldn’t be into. Sometimes I use his play pin and he’s alright with that but he only stays happily in it for about 15 minutes at a stretch. And I can’t blame him because it’s so small. So, Chris and I have figured out how to pin him into a play area in the living room. That way, he has an entire baby-proof room to roam in, instead of a little play pin. I like to think of it as more of a gated community. Bean thinks he is being held captive.
But yesterday, this happened…

Clearly, the prisoners (Bean and his accomplices, Lucy and Big Molly) have orchestrated a coup. And what was their objective?
To commandeer the Tupperware cabinet.

I gave him one last chance at a peaceful resolution, but he looked me clear in the eye and yelled out, “INDEPENDENCE OR DIE!”

And with that cry, the perpetrator began to dismantle my Tupperware. He showed no remorse.

By the time the prisoner was captured, he had managed to single-handedly dismantle an entire cupboard. I had no choice but to take the subject into custody, change his diaper, and give him a meal before putting him down for the most dreaded nap in solitary confinement.
Fear not, he was justly treated.

“Uhhh….Big Molly?” said Bean. “Uhhh… There’s something hanging off of you back here…”
“What the…??” said Bean.

“Hey, uh, Molly?” said Bean. “I mean, I don’t want to scare you or anything, but this thing is pretty big. And hairy, too.”

“Oh, that’s my tail,” said Big Molly.
“What’s a tail?” asked Bean.
“You know,” said Big Molly. “Its that thing that chases you around and then sometimes you can chase it around and then you can catch it and then you can chew on it. But that kind of hurts.”

“I don’t think I have one of those,” said Bean.
“Sure you do,” said Big Molly. “Stand up. I’ll show you.”
“Okay,” said Bean. “But I don’t think I do…”

“Well?” said Bean. “Do I have one?”
“Huh,” said Big Molly. “You don’t.”
(silence)
“Well then give me yours!”
