Adventure, Exploring, Laughing, and Growing

One of the things I did in the past year without blogging was to plug into my kids activities more.  One of those was getting involved in Cub Scouts with Bean.  He was a Tiger Scout this past year, and we have loved every single minute of it. One of my favorite things about Cub Scouts is how family-oriented it is.  Our whole family participates, even Gracie, and that not only makes it Bean’s extra curricular activity, but really a family commitment. Chris and I are the den leaders of Bean’s…

My Blooming Husband

Last week, Chris was in tech rehearsals almost every night, which means he didn’t get home until about 11:00.  And I was fighting a cold, so I was going to bed when the kids did around 8:00 every night.  Chris and I basically saw each other over breakfast in the mornings, and that was about it. (Have I mentioned how much I hate tech weeks?) On Thursday night, I was finally feeling a little better, so I stayed up late to see him when he got home.  We sat in the…

Some Days

Some days, it is really hard to be a parent.  You question yourself a lot.  Am I doing it right?  Am I a good mom?  Am I giving them everything they need?  The doubt weighs heavy on your shoulders, and all you can do is pray it away. Some days, the guilt gets to you.  You try to balance all the important components of your life, and you just hope that at the end of the day, everyone feels loved enough.  But the guilt of that balance is a burden…

#oneword2015 Update: Contentment

For the past few years, I have chosen one word to be my New Year’s resolution.  I try to pick one word that I want to embody or even just pay more attention to throughout the coming year.  This year, I chose the word “contentment.” (Read more about my #oneword2013, #oneword2014, and #oneword2015.) I’m almost four months into 2015 so far, and what I have learned about this word surprises me more than any other word I have chosen as my #oneword.  Turns out, contentment, more than any word before,…

This Week’s Happenings

1.  Early this morning, around 5:00am, Chris and I were woken up by this loud crash in our house.  Both of us instinctively jumped out of bed.  And then we just started yelling at each other because we didn’t really know what else to do. “GO CHECK ON THE KIDS!” I shouted to him. And then he bends down to Big Molly and yells back to me, “I THINK MOLLY IS OKAY!” “NO!” I  yelled back.  “CHECK ON OUR REAL CHILDREN!” Turns out, the shelving unit in my closet spontaneously…

Baseball Opening Ceremonies, 2015

Chris ordered a camera battery charger for me last week and saved my pictures. And my blog.  So, now we are back to regularly scheduled programming. Last weekend, we had Bean’s first tee ball game and Opening Ceremonies for the league.  This is his first year playing tee ball, so we were new to all of it.  And, man, it did NOT disappoint! Bean is LOVING baseball. He loves all parts – throwing, catching, batting. He likes practice and he really loved his first game. He has a great coach, and…

Great is Thy Faithfulness

It will be five years ago this May that our family picked up and moved from Connecticut to Orlando in order to be closer to our extended family.  If you are new around these parts, then you missed that great transitional period in our lives.  It was a terrible, turbulent time in our home, when we were broke, unemployed, uninsured, and trying desperately to hold on to what was left of our faith. Chris and I prayed and prayed about our move back to Florida.  We had a wonderful, thriving life…

OH MY GOD! I’M IN MY 30s!!!!!!

The absolute WORST thing happened to me today. I realized how old I am.  More specifically, I realized how young I am NOT.  And, let me tell you.  That’s a heartbreaking realization. So, here’s what happened. I had to attend a professional development training after school today.  I got there on time, moseyed into the classroom where we would be having class, and looked around for a place to sit.  Most of the tables were full, but I spotted a seat at a table full of youngish women who seemed…

Long Weekends, Happy Hearts

Friday was a teacher planning day for me.  I originally planned to send the kids to our daycare because they offer an extended day program on days when the public schools are closed.  But Bean has figured out that if HE doesn’t have school, then I don’t have school either.  So, he was like, “Can’t I just come with you?” And then when Gracie squeaked out, “Me, too?” Well, how could I say no? So, Friday, we ran some errands and worked in my classroom together.  And it was way…

Christmas Recap and A BABY!!!!! (not mine…)

I have been trying to decide how to share our Christmas adventures on the blog without boring everyone to death with a ton of boring pictures and stories that you really had to be there in order for them to be funny.  Finally, I decided on a slideshow. Some of the pictures are self-explanatory and some of them probably need a caption or two to help you understand what’s happening, but I’m skipping all of that because I think this video sums up our entire Christmas well enough without words.…
