Happy Mother’s Day to Me!

Happy Mother’s Day to Me!

As the kids get older, the Mother’s Days become even better. They are filled with more handmade artwork and lots of “you’re the best mommy ever’s.” My Mother’s Day celebration actually began Friday morning when I had “Muffins with Mom” at Gracie’s preschool. It is the seventh year I have had this breakfast at this school, and every year it gets sweeter and sweeter. (This is Gracie’s painting of me. I am particularly fond of the pink hair.) On Sunday, we packed up and headed to the beach. My favorite…

Happy Campers

Happy Campers

This past weekend, we went camping with some families from our Cub Scout pack at Ft. De Soto National Park right outside of St. Petersburg, Florida. This was our second time camping with Scouts, and it only confirmed to us how thankful we are that we have become part of this group of friends and families. Chris and I took the day off work on Friday and kept the kids home from school so that we could head over to St. Petersburg around lunch time. We got to the campsites…

My Blooming Husband

My Blooming Husband

Last week, Chris was in tech rehearsals almost every night, which means he didn’t get home until about 11:00.  And I was fighting a cold, so I was going to bed when the kids did around 8:00 every night.  Chris and I basically saw each other over breakfast in the mornings, and that was about it. (Have I mentioned how much I hate tech weeks?) On Thursday night, I was finally feeling a little better, so I stayed up late to see him when he got home.  We sat in the…

Quit Yer Beachin’

Quit Yer Beachin’

Last week, my one and only goal was to go to the beach.  I think it’s leftover from my high school and college days when Spring Break meant sunshine and tan lines.  Since Chris was working all week, I loaded up the kids by myself for the day and headed to New Smyrna Beach for a little day trip. I love NSB because it’s one of the rare beaches that lets you drive out and park. And when you’re taking kids by yourself, parking right on the beach has a lot…

Gracie’s 5th Birthday Recap

Gracie’s 5th Birthday Recap

Happy Easter, friends!  A better blogger would have scheduled an Easter recap on Easter Sunday instead of a birthday recap.  But… half-assed.  So instead, let me just tell you that we had a lovely Easter here at our house.  My mom came to church with us in the morning, and in the afternoon we had a big lunch with friends of ours.  It was relaxed, casual, and focused on what mattered.  Just the way I like to spend holidays. Easter was actually the ending of a really busy weekend at…

You Catch It, You Keep It

You Catch It, You Keep It

Tonight after dinner, I went out to the pool to swim some laps.  About ten minutes into my swim, I ran into a friend. We get frogs around our pool a lot. It’s a Florida thing. But this sucker was big, even by Florida standards. I freaked the freak out and squealed so loud that the kids and Chris heard me from inside. Naturally, when they got out there, Bean immediately wanted to catch the frog. “Wait!” he shouted. “Let me get my trapper!” And he ran inside to get…

Spring Break Staycation: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Spring Break Staycation: Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

Spring Break for our schools was last week, and we left no stone unturned.  I love that I get the same breaks as my kids do because it means I’m super excited to be out of school, too!  We spent most of our week just hanging out and running errands.  We swam in our swimming pool for the first time this year, went to the dentist, visited Nana and Grandma, finally got Gracie’s bedding for her new big girl daybed (Ikea, of all places!), and did some spring cleaning and laundry….

So Close!

So Close!

Spring is coming!  It’s so close, I can feel it in my bones! This is my last week of school before spring break next week, and the kids and I are READY. I can always tell when spring is coming because I start to get a little restless. I get bored with normal things. I don’t want to go home and cook dinner. I don’t want to give baths and read bedtime books. I want to play outside in the front yard. Ride bikes or go swimming. It actually drives…

Great is Thy Faithfulness

Great is Thy Faithfulness

It will be five years ago this May that our family picked up and moved from Connecticut to Orlando in order to be closer to our extended family.  If you are new around these parts, then you missed that great transitional period in our lives.  It was a terrible, turbulent time in our home, when we were broke, unemployed, uninsured, and trying desperately to hold on to what was left of our faith. Chris and I prayed and prayed about our move back to Florida.  We had a wonderful, thriving life…

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

I am a firm believer in celebrating the end of the week on Friday nights.  There’s nothing more disappointing to me than looking forward to Friday all week and then going home and sitting on the couch.  Fridays are meant to be celebrated! Last Friday, celebration was a little tough because Chris was in tech rehearsals, so it was just me and the littles.  I was on the fence about doing anything at all, really, but then Chris emailed me at work that Santa was arriving that night at the…
