Little Seeds of Thought

Lately, Gracie has become very interested in babies.  Specifically, where babies come from, how they get there, and how they get out.  I think this mostly comes from the fact that she plays with baby dolls all the time, and so she always has babies and mommies on the brain.  I think it also comes from us having so many friends right now that are having babies.  I am constantly crocheting baby blankets and she is forever asking me which baby they are for. When she and Bean were smaller,…

The Sweet Gesture That Will Cause a Divorce

When I was pregnant with both my babies, Chris took up this particularly endearing habit.  Every time he kissed me hello or goodbye, he would rest his hand gently on my baby bump.  It was as if he were kissing the baby hello or goodbye, too.  It kind of sounds creepy when I write it out, but you’ll just have to trust me.  It was really sweet. This subtle gesture, however, may cause our divorce. Periodically – not often, but every now and then – when Chris kisses me hello…

Hair of the Blog

When I was in Atlanta with my sister a couple weekends ago, I did a series of videos with her on her fashion and style. Mostly it was about her hair. A lot of blog readers ask about Ginny’s gorgeous hair when they see pictures of her, so I figured we’d go right to the source and ask her to walk us through her hair routine. It wasn’t as complicated as I was expecting. Which frustrates me. I wish she’d said she used some rare, ultra-expensive product that made her…

My Sister.s Miscarriage, Part 4-6

Yesterday, I posted three video interviews of my sister sharing about her miscarriage experience, in the hopes that through Ginny’s story, other women might find a voice to begin talking about this very difficult subject. Today I am posting the last three videos from the interview. These videos talk about how Ginny’s friends and family helped her through, including what things were good to hear and what sentiments she found hurtful. A special, huge thanks to my sister for being brave enough to speak out. And a special, huge hug…

My Sister.s Miscarriage, Part 1-3

When I was in Atlanta last weekend, I talked to my sister about her miscarriage for the first time in a long time. Mostly what we talked about was how common they are amongst our girlfriends and acquaintances, and that we had never known how prevalent they were until Ginny went through hers and people started selflessly sharing their own stories with her. Through these conversations, Ginny agreed to do a series of video interviews with me about her miscarriage. Some of the conversations focus on her actual miscarriage, some…

How to Sleep When the Baby Sleeps

Late in my pregnancy with Bean, the advice changed from how to survive my pregnancy to how to survive the first few months as a new mom. Without a doubt, the most frequent advice I heard was, “Sleep when the baby sleeps!” Hearing that before I had any children, it seemed a little silly. Of course I’d sleep when the baby slept! What else would I do? But within one day of having Bean finally in my arms, I realized how much there was to do! For one thing, I’d…

What Will It Bee?

This past weekend, I ditched Chris and the kids and hitched a ride with my parents to Atlanta to visit my sister. Ginny and her hubby, John Michael, just moved into their new house, and so they threw a big housewarming party. First of all, their house is AMAZING. If Ginny and John Michael were a house, this is the house they would be. It’s classic and open and warm and perfect for hosting lots of friends and family. I especially loved the front door and porch. I wanted to…

The Worst Thing That Can Happen After You Birth a Human

After the kids went to bed tonight, I grabbed my shopping list and coupons and headed up to Target to do my weekly grocery shopping. (Side Note: Have you ever been grocery shopping at Target? It is much cheaper than my regular grocery store, which kind of surprises me…) I loaded my cart with necessities and pulled into the check out with the shortest line. There was a really nice, chatty young girl working the register and we made small talk while she rang up my groceries. And then the…

C-Section Recovery #2

Warning:  This post is about my c-section recovery (hence the post title…).  Don’t read if you’re squeamish, are eating a meal, or have no interest in c-section recoveries.  Thank you, Management (Please ignore the fact that Gracie’s feet are above her head.  It’s been a long day.) Gracie was my second c-section.  When I was pregnant with Bean, he was breech for my entire pregnancy.  I tried everything my doctor suggested to get him to turn on his own – including laying with my feet in the air on an…

Back to Our New Reality

After such a fun day on Saturday with family, Sunday morning was a lazy day for me, Chris, and Gracie Girl. Everyone was still at our house and would be coming back up to the hospital later in the day, so that morning we took advantage of the quiet for just the three of us to spend some time together. After a while, Gracie started to get sleepy again, so we sent her up to the nursery and Chris took the opportunity to head home, shower, and spend some time…
