A Grand Weekend €“ Part I

Is there anything better than a good surprise?   I think not.   And this weekend we pulled the surprises of all surprises.   Beanie and I flew down on Thursday to visit my parents in Florida and to surprise my grandmother, who had not yet met her first great-grandson.   It was probably the best reaction I’ve ever seen.

We got to my parent’s house and my mom walked back into my grandmother’s bedroom first.   (My grandma lives with my parents)   My grandmother was knitting and when my mom called her name to get her to look up, my fiesty grandma snapped, “Well, Patty!   I’m not getting up until I finish this row, so you’re just gonna have to wait a minute!”

That’s when Beanie and I announced, “We’re not waiting on anything!”

Grandma looked up and jumped up – which is no easy task considering she’s had two hip surgeries and a knee replacement this year!   She reached out, grabbed Beanie from me without saying a word and then burst into tears.   It was great!   We were all crying.   Except Beanie who was smiling.   He’s a good surpriser.

We played with my parents and grandma for the next day and a half.   We had so much fun!   My parents had an entire nursery set up for Beanie.   He had a Pack ‘n Play crib with sheets and blankets, a bouncer seat, an activity mat, a bath tub, and more toys than he knew what to do with!   It was great!

My family has made me happy my entire life, so to be able to give them some of that happiness back by making them grandparents and great-grandparents is just such a joy to me.   I know how influential and important family is in my life and I’m so thankful that Beanie will have that experience, too.

Soon after our visit with my family, we headed out to celebrate with Chris’ family in Orlando.   What were we celebrating?   You’ll see…
