No Fences Make Embarrassing Neighbors

We are replacing the fence in our backyard.  This requires several steps.  We had to take down the existing fence (because even though we are already paying thousands of dollars for a new fence, Chris refuses to pay an extra $200 for them to remove the old fence… Boys…).  We did that part this weekend.  Chris had a friend come over to help him and Bean, while Gracie and I stood on the sidelines and cheered. (Side note:  Gracie has strep throat AGAIN.  Third time in two months.  We have…

Photo Wall… FINALLY.

Chris and I have always wanted a photo wall in our house. Lucky for us, we have several walls that would be perfect for lots of photos. We thought about in our bedroom, but then no one would see that but us. Then we thought about the hallway going down to the playroom (which is actually just a basement until we fix it up, but it sounds better calling it a playroom). But we hardly ever go down there, and we never have company down there, so again it would…

The Sacrificial Laundry Wench

Laundry is my nemesis. It’s like the house guest that just won’t leave. I stumble over it.  Climb over it.  Cry over it. And, yet, it continues to sit there in gigantic piles and taunt me. I know what the problem is, too.  It’s my laundry room.  And I’m using the term “room” here very loosely.  See, in this house, our laundry room is outside in the garage.  Which means that in order for me to do laundry, I have to leave the air conditioned interior of my house and…

When Mom Does the Dishes

This past weekend as I did the dishes, I learned several important things about the men in my life. First, they are easily entertained. Next, some short person has been putting items into my dishwasher when I’m not looking. So far, I have found the following items in my dishwasher: – 5 Legos – 2 golf balls – A book – A shoe – And most recently, a plastic golf club Third, Chris really needs to empty the food particles out of the drain when he does the dishes. Yuck!…

How Elvis Fell in Love With Me

When I first moved to Florida, there was a snake in my driveway and I hit it with my car and you all shamed me for the brutal murder.  Remember that? Ever since that post and all the comments about how I really should have just left the snake alone because snakes are people, too… (Wait a minute…That’s not right…) Anyway, I thought long and hard about it and decided you all were right.  Snakes are friends, not food. So, I have made every effort to live in peace with…

Little Things

This weekend Chris worked on our basement.   He painted and cleaned and built stuff.   I left him alone for most of the time because he seemed to have it under control.   And because there are no AC units in the basement and its hot down there.   But around 1:00 on Saturday, I started to get bored, so I moseyed on down to the basement to offer my painting services.   It was miserable.   I literally painted myself into this tiny corner and when I tried…

Dirt, Digging, and Dogs

Yesterday was a perfect day. It was the kind of day outside that makes you feel guilty for staying inside. Usually on days like that, we take the dogs to a park or field or something outside so they can run and play, but Chris had different plans this weekend. He convinced me to stay home and to work in the yard with him. Now, my gardening skills are about as good as my baking skills. I just have no interest in it. I don’t like to get dirty or…
