First Day of School, 2017

IT’S THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which, at least for the time being, is super exciting around my house. One day, I’m sure this will not be such a happy day for them, but I’m going to soak up their excitement for as many years as I can. Both kids were up and completely dressed by 6:30 this morning, all on their own. Which is a far cry from just last week when I was came home from preplanning most days around 4:00 to find them still in their jammies.…

Catch Ups and Weekends

Last week I was back in school for preplanning and it basically kicked my butt.  I started to regret my afternoon naps and staying in my pajamas all day during the summer because I was not physically or emotionally ready to be awake, alert, and productive for that long.  Holy cow.  But I wasn’t the only one preparing to go back to school.  The kids had “Meet the Teacher” and were both really happy with the teachers they got.  They were also happy to see their friends again. This weekend…

New Year. New School. New Classroom.

Last week, I started working officially at my new school.  I had been waiting all summer to meet my new team of teachers and I was so relieved when we finally got to work together last week.  We came in for an optional pre-preplanning period to get a head start on our school year and I’m so glad that we did.  It gave us a chance to work together and plan out our curriculum for the year. One of the best parts about my switching schools is that I am…

Friendship Knows No Country

A little over a year ago, Gracie’s bestest little buddy in her daycare class moved back to Italy.  Her dad was here working for two years, but when his contract was up, they packed their family and sadly headed back to Rome.  Gracie was heartbroken.  We tried doing a few FaceTime sessions with the girls, but it was hard.  Sara was having a tough time adjusting to the language in Rome and Gracie was really missing her friend, so we stopped those.  But still, Sara’s mom and I stayed in…

Hashtag Squad Goals

My summer is quickly drawing to a close and I can feel it slipping away!  NOOOOOOO!!!!!  I have been back to work this week to work on getting the new year planned and on getting my classroom ready.  I’ll post pictures when it is finished.  It’s been nice to be back, but after two months of wearing pajamas and reading books all day, it’s exhausting to be productive for hours at a time! It has required happy hours with my sweetheart to help me survive. Last weekend, in one last…

All Good Things Come to an End

Last week was my first week back at school.  Boooooooo!!!!!!  Hisssssssssss!!!!!  Students don’t come back to school until August 18, but we had to go back early for a two week training and then our regular pre-planning the week of August 11.  It’s just no fair, I tell you! I spent all last week teaching other teachers about digital technology in the classroom.  My master’s degree was in Educational Leadership and my focus area was in technology in education, so digital curriculum is a passion of mine.  I’ve been lucky…

Hump Day Musings

I have sat down to blog for three days now and been stumped. You know in cartoons when a bunch of people try to fit through a doorway, but they all get stuck because they try to go through at the same time? Well, that’s been my brain lately. There is just so much stuff going on that when I sit down to try and let some of it out, it all gets bottled up and nothing comes. So today, I thought I’d just let it all out a little…

First Day of School

Yesterday was Bean’s first day at his new school.  We got up and going early and totally would have been on time if Bean didn’t eat like a snail.  He takes forever to eat anything (just like his Dad…) and so we all sat around, fully dressed, staring at Bean in his high chair until he proudly pronounced, “All done!” When we got to school, he immediately knew something was up.  He attached himself to my leg and started wimpering, but I just kept talking to him in a sing-songy…
