A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

First of all, let me thank you for the outpouring of support yesterday!  You all made me feel much better and gave me some confidence about stepping up for my kids.  In answer to a lot of your comments, I received an email last night from the principal thanking me profusely for my email and asking for a description of the staff member so that the incident would not be repeated with other children.  I am really glad Bean is attending this school and I know that this is not…

Things Change

When things are going smoothly in my life, I run out of blog fodder.  Can you tell? I haven’t had much to blog about these days because there’s been no crisis, little fighting, and not a crazy oddball emergency in sight.  What do normal people blog about?!?!?  I find when life is running just as it should, that’s a good time to make some small little changes.  That’s a big thing for me because I used to avoid change like the plague.  Now, I find myself seeking out little things…

Putting Your Toddler Through Changes

We moved into our house on a Saturday and Sunday.  That following Monday, Bean Man started school. Normally, I am really big on avoiding too much change at one time for the kids, but the situation was unavoidable. So, we tried to love him up really good during that busy time so that he at least knew that we were constant and stable, even if everything else was changing. The move into the new house went fairly smoothly for Bean. I think it helped that we spent a few weeks…

The Sister Speaks (About Being Married)

Last week I asked my sister to guest blog on MC.  She’s actually a really great writer and her perspectives on life, marriage, love, and family are so fresh and relatable that I thought you all would appreciate them, too.  Ginny and her husband, John Michael, were married last April (see posts about her wedding here, here, here, here, and here) and since then have been living in southern Virginia where he was transferred through his job.  It looks like they’ll be moving again somewhere this summer, but that is…

Why I Should Not Live in Florida

Last week I came home from running errands with Bean Man and I found this on my kitchen floor. I couldn’t tell what it was at first, so I did the natural thing.  I started screaming bloody murder.  And throwing things at it.  And jumping on furniture. But the bugger never moved, so I got a little braver and stepped into the kitchen only to find it was a gator from the top of Bean’s animal birthday cake last week. Clearly, I have not quite adjusted to my new environment…

The Things It Takes to Sell a House Today

Chris was offered the job in Orlando in December and, as exciting as it was, the first thought that came into our heads was, “The house.” In case you aren’t aware, the housing market right now?  Well, it ain’t exactly jumpin’.  In fact, its barley breathin’.  Especially in areas like Connecticut where home inflation was really soaring before the recession.  Which, coincidentally, is exactly at the peak of when Chris and I bought our home.  We over paid.  But all the cool kids were doing it at the time and…

The Second Trimester Wrap Up

This week begins the 27th week of my pregnancy and we all know that the 27th week is the last week of the second trimester.   (Full Disclosure:   I only know this because I Google’d it about 10 minutes ago…)   I can’t believe how fast time has gone – 6 whole months down.   But at the same time, I can’t believe how much time is left.   Every day seems to go slower and slower, but I’m okay with this because it is giving the Bean time…
