My Pinterest Successes

*** The winners of the Monsters University packages will be announced tomorrow!  Be sure to check in and see if one of them is you! *** I think it has been well documented on this blog that I am a Pinterest addict. I can’t help it, but at least I can admit it. They say that’s the first step. I normally use Pinterest for my meal planning. I sit down on Saturday mornings with my grocery list, coupons, and iPad and I cruise Pinterest until I find good recipes for…

My Dad’s (Pork) Butt

One of my favorite things to do when I’m missing my dad is to cook something that he used to make. He had a handful of signature dishes. Some of them he never shared the recipes for, and occasionally I’ll spend an afternoon trying to figure out what the heck was in that one specific dish. He used to make this ground beef thing over rice that I loved when I was really little. I have no idea what it had in it. There were no veggies, no tomato sauce,…

Mexican Beef, Oh My!

Now, I don’t want to freak anyone out, but I’m about to post a recipe. Crazy, I know. I am not what one might call gifted in the culinary arts. I can grill a mean chicken breast.  I can steam the heck out of a broccoli floret.  And I can make mashed potatoes that make you wanna smack your Grandma.  But other than that one meal, it’s really hit and miss.  I think it’s cause I’m not a detail-oriented person.  I like the idea of cooking, but when I start…

Because Its Wednesday and My Brain is Fried.

Tonight, Chris and I took Bean Man to one of my favorite places.  Le Cracker Barrel.  As a misplaced Southerner living in New England, Cracker Barrel has provided just the kiss of sweet tea that I sometimes need in my blood stream to survive. They have also provided me with hashbrown casserole.  Thanks be to God. This was all part of Operation Keep Beanie Awake So He Sleeps Through the Night.  And it worked perfectly.  We had such a nice, leisurely dinner just the three of us.  Well, until Chris…

Giveaway Tuesday!

A few months ago, a lovely reader of this humble blog sent me a present. A cookbook. Little did she know, cookbooks are one of my favorite things in the whole wide world. Even on days when I don’t feel like cooking. Even when the recipes are too complex for me. Even when I don’t have the weird ingredients a recipe calls for – like saffron (does anyone in the real world actually use saffron?). I just love cookbooks. And what did my dear friend, Lee, send me? A COOKBOOK!…

I Bake, Therefore I am

Don’t these cookies look delicious? I made them myself.  They are peanut butter oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.  Here – have a closer look… (Pay no attention to the blue M&M’s.  They are Spiderman M&M’s.  Only thing I had.) They look so yummy, don’t they?  They make you want to pour a cold glass of milk and cozy up with a blanket and good book.  Funny thing about these cookies though. THEY TASTE LIKE CRAP.  Total crap.  Like baked crap.  And I just don’t get it. You know when you go…
