A Rip-ROAR-ing Good Time

When I was asked to review the new VTech Switch & Go Dinos, I thought it would be a breeze. Send me some dinosaur transformers for Bean to play with? Are you kidding me? SIGN ME UP! The dinosaurs are actually transformers that morph into cars. Two of Bean’s favorite things in one toy. This was going to be a breeze. He loved them, and they are virtually indestructible (believe me, Bean’s tried…). Bean likes that the faces of the dinosaurs (or the windshields of the cars, depending on what…

Magnetic Race Track

Hi friends! What a great few days we have had talking about food for wee ones! I had no idea it would be such a popular topic. It actually makes me feel so much better because it seems that we all struggle with the same things from time to time. Whew! I have gotten a lot of email, tweets, and FB messages this week asking me specific questions about our feeding/eating routine at our house. I had planned today to do a final food post that answered all those questions…

Momma Bear

(Warning: Just writing about this story makes me get angry all over again. You have been warned.) Last weekend, my mom and I took Bean and Gracie to a park to play for a while. Gracie hung out in her stroller. Playgrounds aren’t really her thing yet. Bean, however, was all over the place. He loves playgrounds. He runs around calling, “C’mon, Mommy!” It’s pretty darn cute. This particular park was for kids a little bit older than Bean, but we just modified how we played so that Bean could…

Maybe They Like Me More

“Psssst…Gracie?” whispered Bean. “Are you asleep?” “Well, not anymore,” said Gracie. “Oh, good,” said Bean. “Cause you’re laying on my pig and I’ll…just…take….him back…if that’s okay.” “Actually,” said Gracie. “I think that’s my pig. It was one of my presents.” “Presents? I didn’t get any presents. What’d you get presents for?” “Oh, you know,” said Gracie. “For being borned.” “Being borned?” “Yeah. I was borned, so people sent me presents.” “What’s so important about being borned?” said Bean. “I was borned before, too, you know.” “YOU WERE?!?!” said Gracie. “You…

One Day Weekend Getaway

This past weekend, Bean and I flew to Virginia to spend the weekend with my sister. I haven’t seen her in forever and since my birthday is coming up in December, she sent me and Bean a plane ticket for a one-day weekend getaway! What a great sister! Bean and I flew up Friday after work. Flying alone with a toddler while big and pregnant was…well…not ideal. But Bean was actually a pretty good little trooper. He played and sang songs (did I tell you that he’s singing now?) and…

Mini-Vacation, Mega-Fun: Part One

I had last Friday off for a school holiday and so we took advantage of the three-day weekend by getting out of town.  As much fun as we have and as many things as we try to get out and do, it has been years since Chris and I took a voluntary vacation.  Sure, we go and we do, but most of our travel is tied to a holiday and we usually find ourselves heading to wherever family is.  I really think that we haven’t chosen a destination and planned…

Happy Hallo-Bean!

Well, Halloween this year was an epic fail on my part.  But Bean?  He NAILED Halloween this year… He even roared. My favorite part of this particular picture? The toes sticking out at the bottom. Classic. Bean trick-or-treated like he’d been doing it for years. Like a pro. He’d saunter up to a house, smile sweetly, hold out his pumpkin bucket, and wait patiently while people fawned all over him and loaded his bucket with loot. Then he’d say, “Tank tou. Bye bye!” I mean, he rocked. You know who…

Summertime Toys

This summer, Bean’s age has opened him up to a whole new world of toys and activities that keep him entertained.  That has been so exciting, but it also has had the potential to be expensive!  Every time Bean outgrows his toys, we can’t run out and buy the entire toddler section at Toys R Us.  So, we’ve become creative in how we recycle old toys and how we purchase new toys. I noticed that when Bean watched TV (not that he does it often…), he was pulling pillows off…

The Reality of Boys

Late yesterday afternoon I was celebrating my last day of work by laying on the couch with my feet up.  I know.  I live on the edge.  Chris was outside in the Man Cave playing pool with the dogs.  After about an hour, my cell phone rings and its Chris calling from outside.  Don’t be alarmed.  We often call each other from our cell phones when we are in different parts of the house.  Does that make us lazy?  Perhaps.  But I like to think of it as being frugal…
