A Pillar of Strength

Monday is my mom’s birthday.  It’s going to be a tough one.  Another first without my dad.  But true to who she is, my mom is facing this head on with a strength that comes from a place so deep within that it simply must come from the Lord. On birthdays, we recognize the people we love and what makes them so special.  There are lots of things that make my mom special.  She’s a fantastic mother, always there with an encouraging word or big hug.  She’s an awesome Nana.…

Sit, Boo Boo, Sit.

This weekend, Gracie checked another milestone off her chart. She now sits. (sigh) Damn. When Bean was a big lump of baby fat, I couldn’t wait for him to hit milestones. Rolling over? DONE IT! Sitting up? BAM! Eating solid food? WHAT UP! But my Graciekins? When she hits a milestone, my womb cries out, “STOP GROWING, PUFFALUMP!” I think it’s because she’s our last baby and I know that I’ll never get that first back again. Cause it’d just be weird if I started celebrating other people’s kid’s milestones,…

When Mom Does the Dishes

This past weekend as I did the dishes, I learned several important things about the men in my life. First, they are easily entertained. Next, some short person has been putting items into my dishwasher when I’m not looking. So far, I have found the following items in my dishwasher: – 5 Legos – 2 golf balls – A book – A shoe – And most recently, a plastic golf club Third, Chris really needs to empty the food particles out of the drain when he does the dishes. Yuck!…

Pass the Vodka. Its Bathing Suit Season.

One of the best parts of living in Orlando is that I get to reconnect with my oldest friend, Sarah. I’ve known Sarah since we were in 6th grade.  She sat behind me in our Social Studies class and we’ve been friends ever since.  We went away to college together and even lived together for a year.  As we’ve grown up, we’ve gone on to do different things and lead different lives, but we still have stayed good friends.  She’s the kind of person you can call after three or…

Bye, Bye Momma

Tomorrow I’m heading to New York with my sister for her bachelorette weekend.  And – news flash – babies can’t come to bachelorette weekends.  This means I’ll be leaving Bean overnight for the first time.  And not just overnight, but until Sunday.  That’s three full days and two full nights without my Beaner. Now, I realize that Bean will be in very capable hands.  Chris will be fine.  Bean will be fine.  I, however, may not be fine. I already miss him and I haven’t even left yet. But I’d…

Be Still My Heart

This afternoon when we all got home from work and school, Chris and I spread out Bean’s big blanket on the floor and started helping him with the crawling. But Bean got tired and so he flopped over on his back.  Crawling is hard work, dude. And I was tired from working a full day.  So, I flopped down with him. Luckily, Chris was on hand to make us giggle, so we rolled around laughing and squirming and doing everything EXCEPT crawling for half an hour. I do love coming…

Momma’s Boy

You can’t tell from these pictures, but Chris and Bean are fighting right now. Bean has always been a bit of a Daddy’s boy.   He and Chris just have this special connection.   They play.   They laugh.   They tickle.   In fact, one of my favorite parts of being a mom is that I get to see Chris be a dad. But in the past week or so, Bean has decided he just needs his momma.   Between you and me, I’ve been waiting for this day…

Saturday Mornings

I love Saturday mornings at my house.   Usually, Chris gets up with Beanie so that I can sleep in a little bit.   Its lovely.   I lay in bed and sleep.   Or I lay in bed and listen to the two of them playing in the living room together.   Its such a sweet sound. Usually they last on their own until about 8:00.   That’s when I roll over and find two faces peering at me over the edge of the bed. “Mom, are you awake”…

Happy Birthday, Mom!

This is my Mom. She answers to the name of Patty.   Or Mom.   Or Mooooooom!!!!   Or Nana. She wears many hats. Today is her birthday.   She is 53 years old.   Now, I’ll probably get a phone call from her later yelling at me for putting her age out there for all to see.   But I’ll tell her then what I’ll tell you now – I don’t see what all the fuss is. My mom is 53 years old.   I am 26 years old.…

Free to a Good Home

I’m giving the Bean away.   He’s free to a good home. Underneath those big blue eyes and chubby cheeks is a force to be reckoned with. I’ve already told you a little bit about this past weekend.   How my three month old baby beat my emotions out of me and then told me to suck it up and deal. Don’t get distracted by that big soft belly.   Don’t be fooled by those pudgey little fists.   Beanie has been a pill lately.   Totally and completely.  …
