Where is Summer?!?!

Where is Summer?!?!

Spring has arrived in central Florida.  Our windows have been open almost every afternoon and the breeze is just cool enough to keep the humidity away.  Which means that I have been straightening my hair lately.  I feel like a grown up when I straighten my hair.  Except that it is freakishly long when it is straight, which makes me look a little bit like Michelle Duggar.  I try to balance that look out with tight shirts and short shorts. Just kidding. Although, I did accidentally buy the wrong length…

Hashtag Squad Goals

My summer is quickly drawing to a close and I can feel it slipping away!  NOOOOOOO!!!!!  I have been back to work this week to work on getting the new year planned and on getting my classroom ready.  I’ll post pictures when it is finished.  It’s been nice to be back, but after two months of wearing pajamas and reading books all day, it’s exhausting to be productive for hours at a time! It has required happy hours with my sweetheart to help me survive. Last weekend, in one last…

Summer Moments

Summer Moments

There’s not much to report from these parts lately.  We’ve been doing a lot of this… Which is one of my favorite things to do, so no complaints here. I had to get out of the pool long enough to go to a teacher workshop this Monday and Tuesday. I’m a nerd because I love workshops and trainings. They get my mind going 90 miles an hour. We did some intense planning for next year, and I was just beside myself over a crisis I am calling, “Planner Crisis 2016.”…

Summer Fail.

Summer Fail.

Yesterday was the first, real, official, full day of summer in our house.  I had big plans.  BIG PLANS.  I made a summer schedule, a summer bucket list, and a list of home projects I wanted to complete.  I WAS READY. And then I failed horribly. Here is what I did yesterday: The dishes The laundry (I just folded what has been sitting in my bedroom in baskets for two weeks now.  That counts, right?) Cleaned out the refrigerator Took Daisy to the vet (Spoiler Alert: She’s huge and healthy.)…

Relax. It’s Little League.

Relax. It’s Little League.

Bean’s team had playoffs this weekend.  They played on Saturday and Sunday and won both games, which means they are headed to the championship game this week. I’m so proud of him because he played both games really well.  Base hits, a couple good RBIs, great fielding, and he even made the final out to end the last playoff game. More than that, I was proud of him for his sportsmanship. You guys should have seen some of the parents and coaches at these two games.  I was embarrassed for…

Quit Yer Beachin’

Quit Yer Beachin’

Last week, my one and only goal was to go to the beach.  I think it’s leftover from my high school and college days when Spring Break meant sunshine and tan lines.  Since Chris was working all week, I loaded up the kids by myself for the day and headed to New Smyrna Beach for a little day trip. I love NSB because it’s one of the rare beaches that lets you drive out and park. And when you’re taking kids by yourself, parking right on the beach has a lot…

The Doggie (doesn’t) Paddle

Last week, my mother-in-law, Jackie, was in town to hang out with us for the week.  We had a super fun visit, but that’s nothing new.  I love when Jackie comes to town.  We talk about teaching (she was my teacher when I was in middle school!), we shop, we eat good food.  She’s a lot of fun. One afternoon, we were sitting by the pool with the kids when Big Molly came trotting up to the side of the pool.  Molly is not a fan of the pool, but we’ve…

All Good Things Come to an End

All Good Things Come to an End

Last week was my first week back at school.  Boooooooo!!!!!!  Hisssssssssss!!!!!  Students don’t come back to school until August 18, but we had to go back early for a two week training and then our regular pre-planning the week of August 11.  It’s just no fair, I tell you! I spent all last week teaching other teachers about digital technology in the classroom.  My master’s degree was in Educational Leadership and my focus area was in technology in education, so digital curriculum is a passion of mine.  I’ve been lucky…

Rainy Day Activities

Rainy Day Activities

The summer showers around here are getting intense.  Lightning, thunder, wind, rain.  Thankfully, neither of the kids or Big Molly are scared of thunderstorms, so that means we all just walk around the house bored, waiting for the rain to stop. Earlier this week, there was a particularly bummed out rain delay that lasted almost all day.  By mid-afternoon, we were climbing the walls (literally – the kids were trying to climb their doorways to their bedrooms) (kids are weird), so I decided to put my Pinterest account to use….

If You Give a Teacher a Summer Vacation…

If You Give a Teacher a Summer Vacation…

Last Friday, I had to go to the grocery store. Simple enough task, right? We had a ton of food leftover from the Fourth of July, and our family had been eating hot dogs and pasta salad all week long. We were in need of substance. And milk. I figured while we were out, we should go by this awesome camera store in downtown Orlando that I had been meaning to visit. Colonial Photo and Hobby has been an Orlando staple since God was a boy, I’m sure. And I’m…
