The Doggie (doesn’t) Paddle

The Doggie (doesn’t) Paddle

Last week, my mother-in-law, Jackie, was in town to hang out with us for the week.  We had a super fun visit, but that’s nothing new.  I love when Jackie comes to town.  We talk about teaching (she was my teacher when I was in middle school!), we shop, we eat good food.  She’s a lot of fun. One afternoon, we were sitting by the pool with the kids when Big Molly came trotting up to the side of the pool.  Molly is not a fan of the pool, but we’ve…

All Good Things Come to an End

All Good Things Come to an End

Last week was my first week back at school.  Boooooooo!!!!!!  Hisssssssssss!!!!!  Students don’t come back to school until August 18, but we had to go back early for a two week training and then our regular pre-planning the week of August 11.  It’s just no fair, I tell you! I spent all last week teaching other teachers about digital technology in the classroom.  My master’s degree was in Educational Leadership and my focus area was in technology in education, so digital curriculum is a passion of mine.  I’ve been lucky…

Rainy Day Activities

Rainy Day Activities

The summer showers around here are getting intense.  Lightning, thunder, wind, rain.  Thankfully, neither of the kids or Big Molly are scared of thunderstorms, so that means we all just walk around the house bored, waiting for the rain to stop. Earlier this week, there was a particularly bummed out rain delay that lasted almost all day.  By mid-afternoon, we were climbing the walls (literally – the kids were trying to climb their doorways to their bedrooms) (kids are weird), so I decided to put my Pinterest account to use….

If You Give a Teacher a Summer Vacation…

If You Give a Teacher a Summer Vacation…

Last Friday, I had to go to the grocery store. Simple enough task, right? We had a ton of food leftover from the Fourth of July, and our family had been eating hot dogs and pasta salad all week long. We were in need of substance. And milk. I figured while we were out, we should go by this awesome camera store in downtown Orlando that I had been meaning to visit. Colonial Photo and Hobby has been an Orlando staple since God was a boy, I’m sure. And I’m…

Rainy Summer Afternoons

Rainy Summer Afternoons

We have entered that time of summer in Florida when afternoon thunderstorms are part of the daily routine. Every afternoon around 3:00, the heavens open up and rain down on us. I actually love this time of year. Our yard does, too. After weeks of brutal heat, the water refreshes all of us. Even Big Molly loves the afternoon showers. Last weekend, Chris and the kids hung out in the garage during the afternoon downpour. I poked my head out there a few times to see what was going on,…

Snack Happy

Snack Happy

I don’t know about you guys, but my kids are SNACK HAPPY these days!  Goodness!  That’s all they ever want!  Snack, snack, snack!  If someone asks me for a snack one more time, I might explode! (And, yes, all of those exclamation points were necessary in that paragraph.) At the beginning of the summer, I could tell snacks were going to be an issue. To save myself the battle of “no, you can’t have ice cream at 10:00 in the morning for a snack,” I made a mom-approved snack box….

A Fabulous Fourth!

A Fabulous Fourth!

The Fourth of July is one of Chris’s favorite holidays. And with all the grilling, swimming, and firework action, who wouldn’t love it? We had a fun time with friends and – bonus! – my new camera came in on Wednesday, so I have pretty pictures again! Yay! Unfortunately, I didn’t take as many pictures during the party, so you’ll just have to trust me that we had a great time! We have started putting a sign on our door during parties and having people walk around to our back…

A Hypothetical Playdate

A Hypothetical Playdate

Let’s say – hypothetically – that there were two families who lived in Orlando and were tired of their own pools and had OD’d on the beach the week before. And so – hypothetically – the moms went in search of a different place to play for a day. And let’s say – hypothetically – that their soiled minds led them to break into a Disney resort with their children. If this were true, they would have had to lie to the security guard and say that they were meeting…

But, Oh, Those Summer Nights

But, Oh, Those Summer Nights

Summer days around here are pretty awesome.  The pool, the beach, splash pads, ice cream trucks, skipping naps, library visits, play dates, movie days, Disney adventures, playground afternoons, swimming lessons, imagination camps… and the list goes on.  I look forward to all these things just as much as the kids do.  We are summer days people. Summer days go by quickly and are packed full of excitement. But summer evenings are a little different. (Yes, she’s wearing fairy wings.) Summer nights are slow moving and relaxing. The sun takes its…

A Summer List

A Summer List

1.  Thank you all so much for your feedback about Bean.  Chris and I talked to him about his behavior, and he said he was missing his friends from school.  Even though he has only been out of school for three days now, I think he is looking ahead to a long summer without them and with Gracie instead.  I scheduled a few play dates for him, and Chris and I have talked about spending time with Bean one-on-one to give him a break from Gracie, too.  We explained that…
