Mini-Vacation, Mega-Fun: Part One

Mini-Vacation, Mega-Fun: Part One

I had last Friday off for a school holiday and so we took advantage of the three-day weekend by getting out of town.  As much fun as we have and as many things as we try to get out and do, it has been years since Chris and I took a voluntary vacation.  Sure, we go and we do, but most of our travel is tied to a holiday and we usually find ourselves heading to wherever family is.  I really think that we haven’t chosen a destination and planned…

Honeymooners and Amazon Women

Honeymooners and Amazon Women

I’ve been working on the first few chapters of my book as part of my book proposal and it has brought back some really fun memories from the early years of my marriage, including this story from my honeymoon! ************ Unlike our wedding day, the honeymoon seemed to last forever.  We spent the entire time on the beaches of St. Maartin in the Caribbean, some days only moving when we walked out to the water for a dip.  We did venture out one evening on a sunset booze cruise around…

Driving in My Car

Driving in My Car

Since the 22 hour drive from Connecticut to Florida, Bean has become a wreck in the car.  He hates being in his car seat.  And I really can’t blame him.  He faces backwards and can’t see anyone.  He doesn’t get good A/C, so he’s always sweaty and hot.  And I think he is always worried that he’s going to get stuck in that car seat for another 11 hours at a time.  Even quick trips to the grocery store are traumatic. So, this past week we were in BJ’s picking…

Christmas, 2009 (in 25 seconds or less)

I have been staring at all my pictures from this past week’s Christmas vacation for several days now, trying to figure out how to organize all the fun we had into a blog post.   Or several blog posts.   Or an entire website.   We had so much fun and made so many wonderful memories that it would be impossible for me to go into detail on every event without taking up an entire years worth of blog posts.   And, let’s face it.   I don’t have that…

When the Baby is Sick on Vacation

When the Baby is Sick on Vacation

This past week when we went on vacation, Beanie’s little cough turned pretty grim and we ended up in the urgent care center.   He had been coughing for a week, but never ran a fever and so we were letting that run its course.   But the travel seemed to rev up that cough into a full blown cold and when it settled into his chest, it took a turn. When he is sick at home, Chris and I treat it with a humidifier with menthol oil in his…

The Flying Beanie

The Flying Beanie

Yesterday Chris and I went against everything reason told us and we headed to the airport with Bean to fly to Florida for the holidays.   After the Great Thanksgiving Travel Debacle of 2009, we were a little hesitant to travel with Bean.   The only thing we had going for us was that the past month with him has been FANTASTIC.   He’s been in good moods and on a great schedule.   We just crossed our fingers and hoped that this translated into a better traveling Bean. Our…

Travelsized Beanie

Travelsized Beanie

I’m not gonna lie, Bean had a rough trip.   It wasn’t his fault and to his credit, he really tried to be happy, but traveling is tough for babies.   He was in an unfamiliar place, so it was hard for him feel 100% comfortable.   He didn’t nap because we didn’t have his swing or his music, both of which really help him sleep when he just can’t unwind.   His sleep schedule was off because of the no napping thing, so he woke up at 3:30 every…

Beancast: Traveling for Thanksgiving

Beancast: Traveling for Thanksgiving

This year, we traveled to Virginia to spend Thanksgiving with my family at my sister’s house.   The trip was supposed to take 10 hours according to Mapquest.   We factored in an extra 2 hours for Bean stops and traffic.   Turns out, we were in the car for almost 14 hours.   We ended up stopping and spending the night at a hotel.   Instead of writing about our travels, I took some video for you.   So its almost like you were in the car with us….

A CAR RIDE! WE’RE GOING ON A CAR RIDE!

A CAR RIDE! WE’RE GOING ON A CAR RIDE!

When I was in middle school the movie Homeward Bound came out.   I don’t remember anything about that movie except that this one big, stupid, floppy dog loved cars and whenever his owners got in a car he would start bouncing all around yelling, “A CAR RIDE!   WE’RE GOING ON A CAR RIDE!” That’s exactly what I’m doing right this moment. We spent all night last night packing our car for a very lonnnng car ride.   We’re heading to Virginia to my sister’s house where my entire…
