A Devotion for 2020
Our church has been posting weekly devotions on Facebook since March. It has been such a lovely way to connect with my faith and I have loved hearing different perspectives, stories, and Bible readings from various church leaders and members.
This week, I was asked to share a devotion. I recorded it this morning and, honestly, didn’t know I felt a lot of these things until the camera was rolling. I’m sharing it with you today in case you, too, are struggling with your faith and spiritual journey during this unsettling time. I hope the verses and prayers bring you some small comfort, as they have me.
Resources:
Habakkuk 3:17-18 – “Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoin in the Lord. I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
A prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola – “Lord, when all is darkness and we feel our weakness and helplessness, give u the sense of your presence, your love, and your strength. Help us to have perfect trust in your protecting love. Bless us with your strengthening power so that nothing may frighten or worry us. We trust that in living close to you, we shall see your hand, your purpose, and your will through all things.”

I love the prayer of St. Ignatius of Loyola. I have been so sad and angry over what is happening in our country and I don’t know what to do with all of those feelings. I will start praying this every day as I really think it will help me.
Thank you for sharing Katie!

Katie, thank you so much for this. It was so exactly what I needed right at this moment. I have really been struggling lately and I was in tears listening to your words. I wrote down the verse and prayer because my own words fail me these days when it comes to prayer.
Long time reader but haven’t commented nearly enough. Thank you again for sharing even though it must seem like a one-sided conversation at times.
Btw I’m so glad to hear your results came back negative! I hope you feel better soon. <3

Ugh, I remember your dad’s passing . My dad passed when I was 19 and I grieved again with you. Thanks for sharing your devotional. It was beautiful and so well timed. Left me in tears. <3
