A Grand Weekend €“ Part II

On Saturday morning of our Grand Weekend, Beanie and I headed down to Orlando to meet Chris.   He had flown in the night before to celebrate with his family.   And what were we celebrating?

Chris’ sister, Annie, graduated from college!!!   WOO HOO!!!   YAY ANNIE!!!   Let me tell you a little bit about Annie Bananie.   She is a firecracker.   A pistol.   A hurricane.   All wrapped up in a beautiful smile with dimples that you could fry chicken in.   Its no wonder she melts hearts wherever she goes.   But you know who she melts the most?

Her brother.   Chris is crazy about Annie.   Crazy about her.   And on Saturday he was so proud of her I think he was about to burst.   I was, too.   Because not only did Annie graduate, but she worked practically full time to put herself through school and she’s coming out with NO DEBT!   She’s my hero.

She’s Beanie’s hero, too.   Even if he did sleep through the entire 3-hour ceremony in his sling.   In his heart, he was celebrating his Aunt Annie.

And as it turns out, there were quite a few other people in her family that were impressed enough with Miss Annie to mosey themselves all the way down to Orlando to celebrate, too.   It was Beanie’s first time meeting most of Chris’ family and it was a really great day for him!

We had a really great weekend full of family from all sides and as our plane took off on Sunday morning, I found myself surprisingly homesick for Florida for the first time in a few years.   There’s no question that Chris and I love our life in Connecticut, but I know the profound impact that family can make on your life.   I have to admit it does make me pause for a split second to re-consider living so far away from them while Beanie grows up.   Being surrounded by so much love is just good for the soul.

Especially little bitty souls.

If there is any possible way for you to move closer to family, you should do it. I moved away from my family for college thinking that I would only be gone for 2 yrs. It has been 15 yrs and 2 kids later now and we are now so set where we are that we can’t leave due to pension plans, etc. Luckily, we live close to my hubby’s family. They are such a blessing to have close by when we need help with the kids and to have family to spend the holidays with. And it’s great for my kids to have cousins and aunts and uncles to get to know.

You can totally tell Chris belongs to his family! He and his sister look so much alike! Looks like a good time was had by all!

I hope to be able to take Porter up to NY next summer when my brother graduates from Syracuse University. My only sibling has yet to meet my son 🙁 I am still petrified to bring our little guy on a plane, though. How did The Bean enjoy flying? How did you enjoy flying with The Bean?

Looks like a fun family weekend!

And congrats to your sister-in-law and college degree and no debt that is an awsome accomplishment!

Great pics Katie. I’m so glad you guys were all able to be there for graduation and of course to share the Beanie.

Kristin, I’ll be sure to pass the compliment on to Chris’ grandfather. He’ll get a kick out of that. Believe it or not he’s just shy of 70. Jackie (Chris’ mom)

I hope you know (I’m sure you do) how incredibly lucky you are to still have grandparents on both sides of your and Chris’s family. What a wonderful blessing to have that many generations share the joy and love of a new baby!

Sounds like a great weekend! Sorry to be focused on something totally unrelated to your post, but I was totally distracted by what I assume is your dress or shirt in the pic of Bean in the sling. It looks like it was fabulous! I’d be very interested to see a pic of it and/or know where you got it…totally cute!
