Summer Fail.

Summer Fail.

Yesterday was the first, real, official, full day of summer in our house.  I had big plans.  BIG PLANS.  I made a summer schedule, a summer bucket list, and a list of home projects I wanted to complete.  I WAS READY. And then I failed horribly. Here is what I did yesterday: The dishes The laundry (I just folded what has been sitting in my bedroom in baskets for two weeks now.  That counts, right?) Cleaned out the refrigerator Took Daisy to the vet (Spoiler Alert: She’s huge and healthy.)…

Happy 7th Birthday, Bean!

Happy 7th Birthday, Bean!

Last Wednesday, Bean turned seven years old. SEVEN. As in, the number between six and eight. As in, WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN?! On his birthday, we sprung him out of school and went to Universal for the day. My inner teacher self was totally opposed to this idea, for the record. But I was overruled by my family. And I’m so glad I was because we had such a fun day! Chris’s best friend was in town for the week from New York, so Justin came long, which was great…

A Boy’s World

A Boy’s World

Bean got a new bed last week.  We traded his queen sized bed (which he loved and we had to promise would be replaced with something infinitely cooler…) for a bunk bed. He and Gracie absolutely love it.  They climb all over that thing, and I constantly find myself saying to Chris, “Someone’s going to break an arm… Someone’s going to break a leg…” We are talking about really redoing his room this summer to make it into an actual big kid’s room. But for now, we are leaving the…

Good Job, Katie Girl

Good Job, Katie Girl

I’ve been thinking about my dad a lot recently.  I think about him all the time anyway, but lately it has been more than normal.  My mom is selling her house.  In fact, she closed on her new one just yesterday.  I’m so happy for her, but, as it turns out, seeing her move out of the house she shared with my dad is harder than I thought it would be.  On the day that she closed, she texted us the good news and we all celebrated with her.  But…

Where’s My Baby?

Where’s My Baby?

Good Lord.  I can’t even handle this picture.  How old is that kid? Surely, that’s not my little baby boy?   The one who used to say that dogs “woofed” instead of bark. The one who used to call sneezes “achoos.”   The one who use to ask me to “snuggle” him when he needed an extra hug or two at night. Oh, I just can’t handle this picture.

FEVAH!

FEVAH!

Oh, man.  The fever has hit our house. There’s nothing I hate more than a fever in one of my kids.  They are so darn scary!  Neither Bean or Gracie run fevers very often, but when they do?  Wow!  Those suckers are HOT and HIGH! November, 2014 – Asthma flare There’s a little fever virus going around the daycare, so I’m sure Gracie has brought it home from there.  Thankfully, this time, both kids are sick at the same time, which is nice because it will mean that once it’s…

Field Day

Field Day

Last week, Bean had field day at his school. I remember field day vividly from my own childhood. At my elementary school, each classroom was assigned a country. For some reason, I remember being India one year very clearly. In the weeks leading up to field day, your class learned all about your country. I can still spot the Indian flag from a mile away, thanks to Mrs. Sylvester. We also had Indian food for lunch one day, and then learned all about the country throughout the rest of the…

The Truth Prevails

The Truth Prevails

My girlfriend, Danielle, and I made plans weeks ago to stay one night at a Disney resort over Spring Break.  We decided that instead of breaking into a Disney resort pool (which is becoming increasingly harder with those darn MagicBands…*waves fist at sky*), we would become legit guests for a night and have a little one night staycation.  We booked our hotel and were going to check-in today, hang out by the pool all afternoon, play at the resort tonight, wake up, and play in the pool all day tomorrow,…

Bad Religion

Bad Religion

The other day, I was getting on to Bean for something.  I can’t remember what exactly right now, but it was probably for annoying Gracie. So, I say to him, “You’ve got one more chance to act right and then I’m taking your Legos away for the afternoon, Michael.” Without missing a beat, he replies in this snide little voice we have taken to calling ‘kinder-talk’ around our house, “God gives us as many chances as we need.  Why can’t you be more like God?” My eyes grew as wide…

Baseball Opening Ceremonies, 2015

Baseball Opening Ceremonies, 2015

Chris ordered a camera battery charger for me last week and saved my pictures. And my blog.  So, now we are back to regularly scheduled programming. Last weekend, we had Bean’s first tee ball game and Opening Ceremonies for the league.  This is his first year playing tee ball, so we were new to all of it.  And, man, it did NOT disappoint! Bean is LOVING baseball. He loves all parts – throwing, catching, batting. He likes practice and he really loved his first game. He has a great coach, and…
