Relax. It’s Little League.

Bean’s team had playoffs this weekend.  They played on Saturday and Sunday and won both games, which means they are headed to the championship game this week. I’m so proud of him because he played both games really well.  Base hits, a couple good RBIs, great fielding, and he even made the final out to end the last playoff game. More than that, I was proud of him for his sportsmanship. You guys should have seen some of the parents and coaches at these two games.  I was embarrassed for…

Rainy Day Activities

The summer showers around here are getting intense.  Lightning, thunder, wind, rain.  Thankfully, neither of the kids or Big Molly are scared of thunderstorms, so that means we all just walk around the house bored, waiting for the rain to stop. Earlier this week, there was a particularly bummed out rain delay that lasted almost all day.  By mid-afternoon, we were climbing the walls (literally – the kids were trying to climb their doorways to their bedrooms) (kids are weird), so I decided to put my Pinterest account to use.…

Rainy Summer Afternoons

We have entered that time of summer in Florida when afternoon thunderstorms are part of the daily routine. Every afternoon around 3:00, the heavens open up and rain down on us. I actually love this time of year. Our yard does, too. After weeks of brutal heat, the water refreshes all of us. Even Big Molly loves the afternoon showers. Last weekend, Chris and the kids hung out in the garage during the afternoon downpour. I poked my head out there a few times to see what was going on,…

Fun in the November Sun

This past weekend, Chris painted some more on the outside of our house. He’s been doing it one side of the house at a time each weekend. It’s looking really good! Because he’s spending so much time outside by himself, the kids and I decided to set up our play area in the front yard so we could hang out with him. The kids are at this great age where they are playing so good together. Mostly because Bean is at the age here he loves bossing someone around, and…

Soak Up the Fun

Staying home on maternity leave (and now summer break from school) has left me sometimes feeling a little guilty. At the end of every day, I look around and ask myself if I got enough done to justify being home. Usually, the answer is no. But while all of those chores and things need to get done, I forget that my main job when I stay at home is to be there for my kids. So when those rare times of pure fun come around, I soak it all in.…

The First Spark of Creativity

Lately, we have been spending most of our free time right here. In our backyard. While Bean loves the swimming pool, what he would much rather play with are his school bus and water table. In the pool, he has to either be held or put in his float and that tends to irritate him. He’s at a pretty independent age right now and any activity that involves any kind of constraints is not on his list of favorites. He would much rather run around in the grass and chase…

Webbed Toes

This morning I am taking Bean to a different splash pad than the one we normally go to.  This one is supposed to be bigger and even better than the one close to our house. I’ve discovered that water is the key to playing outside in Orlando.  When it is so stinkin’ hot outside, it is simply no fun at all to play.  Both Bean and I are drenched in sweat by the time I get him out of his car seat.  We just can’t hang in this heat for…
