Out and About With MC

This week MC has been out and about and since Fridays aren’t really work days, I’m assuming most of you are looking for ways to waste time until 5:00 rolls around.  If so, allow me to suggest for your entertainment:

Newsweek

A few weeks ago I posted a rebuttal to an article that ran in Newsweek arguing against the institution of marriage.  Well, yesterday Newsweek wrote another article highlighting 10 different people who provided 10 different responses to that article and they chose Marriage Confessions as one of their responses!

Now, here’s the CRAZIEST part.  The very next rebuttal after mine on Newsweek’s list was a comment that they pulled from their Newsweek website.  (Are you ready for this craziness????)  THEY CHOSE MY DAD’S QUOTE!!!  Since I’m married, I have a different last name so they didn’t know it was him.  But how crazy is it that out of the hundreds of comments and feedback they got, they happened to choose a father and a daughter as two examples?  Once I thought about it though, it made perfect sense to me.  I get my views on marriage and my dedication to making my own marriage work from my parents, so it isn’t too surprising to me that my Dad’s thoughts and mine echo each other.

Check out the Newsweek article.  I’m #4 and my Dad is #5.

24 Savvy

This week MC was chosen by 24 Savvy as the Website of the Week!  Super exciting for me because I love that website!  It is one of those websites that you can go to and find anything you want to read about – celebrity gossip, sports, current events, lifestyle, fashion, blogging, etc.  If you’ve never been over there, you should give it a whirl.  It’s guaranteed to keep you busy for a while.  Also, be sure to check out the little write up that they did on MC (wherein they call me a “dishwashing-shy Betty Homemaker”…).

Twitter

If you already follow me on Twitter, then you knew about both of these things already.  If you’re the Twittering type, be sure to follow me, Chris, and even little Bean Man for up to the minute info on what’s happening in our world.  Also, new on Twitter this week is the MC Insights feature – a continuous stream of hints and tips for daily life in a relationship.

Facebook

Another way I keep in touch is through the MC Facebook Fan Page.  Here you’ll find notices of my posts, info about MC, and random pieces of my daily life.  It is much easier to interact with people through Facebook, so be sure to check in there so that I can say hello!

Well, that’s about all the entertainment that I can provide you today.  Hope to see you out and about in Internet Land!

Have a great weekend!

I’m so proud of you that I want to slap it on my fridge with a magnet! Although I agree with the authors that marriage isn’t mandatory and some may live perfectly fulfilling lives single, with my wedding date coming up in November I couldn’t imagine not spending my life with a partner. Props to you MC!

That’s pretty darned cool that Newsweek chose your article! It was really well written, and just like you, when I read the Newsweek article I was extremely wound up about it. I found other rebuttals to it too and felt incredibly great that “us married types” stuck up for ourselves. That fact that they chose your dad as well is just the icing on the cake.

Whoo, go Katie! That is so awesome they quoted you on Newsweek, and your father! I thought your rebuttal was very well written, and obviously they did, as well. That is definitely too cool 🙂

It’s a small world after all…. that’s pretty cool. And super exciting about the 24 Savvy thing! Good job, woman! And good job Mr. Tillman too! =)

Ok, I’m so unsurprised that they chose your piece to pull a quote from. I thought it was excellently written. But that they chose your dad’s, too? Wow! Amazing. I loved his quote, as well.

  • Heather Ben

That is just crazy. If you had to give them a quote, would that have been the one or would you have choosen something else?

  • Lisa

Your dad wrote a beautiful response. It gave me chills reading it before knowing that it was your dad! I can see where you get your flair for writing from!

  • Meg

Katie, your response touched me even more when I read it a second time. Your dad’s response made me teary. Thank you both for defending marriage.

  • Marie

Katie, that’s awesome! I thought your response was very thoughtful and persuasive. I thought the article ignored the emotional side of marriage as well. Not everything is a business decision, and sometimes the benefits aren’t something quantifiable. In any event, I loved your post! Glad it got the recognition it deserved, and it’s awesome that they picked your dad’s response to publish too!

That is really wild that Newsweek quoted you and your dad! I think that just goes to show the family values that your parents instilled in you are strong and really wonderful!

I’m sure they are really proud of you and they should be proud of themselves for the good job that they did!

This really has nothing to do with this post (congratulations on Newsweek chosing your comment though) but I had to share it with you. I started reading you blog about 2 months ago and I love it! And I of course went through your entire archive and read every insightful blog and ooohed over all the pictures. Well, yesterday on my way to work I passed a woman in a truck that looked oddly familar. I knew that I knew her face but couldn’t place her at all. And I drove myself crazy the intire 25 mintute drive to my work trying to figure out who this lady was. As soon as I pull into my parking lot I think “Hey, thats Katie’s mom” all casual like I had known her forever. It was then I realized how sometimes you honestly feel like you know someone and their family simply from the words and pictures they share. I have truly, truly, enjoyed your blog. I am a 25yr old a little lost in life but your marriage and family excites me about what my future may possibly hold. Sorry this was so long winded, I’m buying time until 5! Point is, I love your blog! Oh, and your mother has a twin in East Texas!

    Congratulations!
What an achievement for both you and your Dad. However anyone who reads your blog knows full well just how much you deserve the recognition from both Newsweek and 24Savvy. While I don’t always share your views, I find that you are always open to other peoples opinions and structure your arguments based on your beliefs. I really like that.
Also, I can’t wait for your book! Go Katie!

We absolutely love your Dad’s comment. I might have to keep tidbits as our relationship moto. I see where you get your wonderful gift from!
