Weekend Recap
After a particularly brutal work week (prepping for upcoming travel, beginning onboarding prep for three new ClassMax schools, and completely feral children), I needed a relaxing weekend like nothing else!
One of the upsides to working from home has been the ability to do my weekend housekeeping chores during breaks in my work days. A load of laundry here, a dusted living room there, and I feel like it has given our weekends a reboost that we really needed. This past week, though, there was no time left for upkeep around the house. Keeping my children alive and getting dinner on the table were major accomplishments for me.
Normally, after busy weeks like that, I use the weekends to catch up. We spend our two days of peace rushing around getting ALL THE ERRANDS done and cleaning ALL THE THINGS and by the time Sunday afternoon rolls around, I’m exhausted before Monday has even appeared on my radar.
I think even Chris knew I was about at my breaking point, though, because on Thursday, he started hinting around at spending Saturday at the beach. I can think of no other place I’d rather be than on a beach, but Chris is different. He loves the water, but not the beach so much. So for him to suggest a beach day was really more like him suggested that I take a beach day for my sanity. And I was beyond thankful because he was right. I needed that time with my family.
So, Saturday morning, we loaded up and drove over to Cocoa Beach for the day. We don’t normally go to Cocoa because it is super touristy, but there was a shark attack last week at the beach we normally go to, so tourists seemed much more manageable than sharks. 🙂 .
And the day was spectacular. Overcast, beautiful water, and friendly people. Plus, we stopped and got a box of Publix chicken wings to eat for lunch. I don’t know why Publix chicken (and subs, even though we didn’t get those this trip) always taste better on the beach!
The kids and Chris boogey boarded and threw a football all day. Bean played on his skim board. I napped. T’was glorious!
When we got home, I had to intentionally remind myself not to immediately begin trying to make up for the time we were at the beach. Chores would wait. We had a yummy pork loin that I had thrown in the crockpot before we left that morning and watched a movie with the kiddos. Once they went to bed, Chris and I finished the third season of “Stranger Things” (SO GOOD!) and a bowl of ice cream. It was really a perfect day!
Sunday we went to church, went grocery shopping, stopped by Home Depot and PetSmart, did some laundry, worked on my Breaking Bread lesson for this week, worked a little for an upcoming work trip I have this week, gave the doggies baths, cooked an easy spaghetti dinner, and played Rummikub until none of the kids were speaking to us (not my fault I DOMINATED…).
Some chores got done, but some didn’t. And that’s okay. There’s always another week to try and catch up. Or not. But putting the chores aside, this weekend completely washed away the stress and grumpiness I had last week. It has cleared my head and given me fresh eyes to see my kids and my home and work in true priority order.
If that’s not a great weekend, I don’t know what is…
