Bean is Growing.

Look at this kid. Who is this kid?

Where is my kid? This is not my kid.

Geeeeeez.. growing up is overrated. Bean is looking so much older these days. He’s getting taller. His face is losing that soft, baby look. He’s actually morphing into Chris slowly over time. Heaven help us all.

Last weekend, Bean had a pretty awesome Saturday. I mean, we all did. But it was Bean’s best day ever. First of all, he rode his first roller coaster at Universal and loved it! He had been wanting to ride one, but would chicken out when he got up to the line. But his school is taking a field trip to Universal (perk of living in Orlando… theme parks for field trips…) in February and he told me and Chris that he wanted to ride a roller coaster with us so that he wasn’t scared when he went with his friends.

Ahhh… peer pressure…

But before he rode the roller, he had his first ice hockey practice and OMG. He aged about 10 years right in front of me! This place was really great because they let you use their equipment so that you don’t have to buy all this expensive stuff that your kid will outgrow in less than a year. We will get Bean his own helmet and skates, but he’ll use their pads.

This is their equipment room. It makes my eyes hurt and my hands twitch. I just want to get in there and spray everything with Lysol, put things into color coded bins, and fire up my label maker. But, apparently, that’s frowned upon because Chris made me go sit in the lobby shortly after I mentioned this to him.

Bean went in a few weeks ago for a skate test to see if he was a strong enough skater for hockey or if he needed skating lessons first, but all that playing hockey on rollerblades in our garage seems to have paid off because he could skate pretty good! He didn’t fall at all and wasn’t even the slowest out there!

My mom came down for the practice, too, which meant there were two family paparazzi in the stands to embarrass Bean. He was THRILLED.

I guess this means that I’m a hockey mom now. To be honest, I’m pretty stoked about that. Ice rinks are nice and cold, which is a perfect fit for my penguin-like temperature preferences. Not to mention a concession stand that sells hot chocolate, so that’s a definitely improvement over hot dogs at the baseball and soccer concession stands.

That’s really all there is to say in this blog post. Bean is growing up. I hate it. Make it stop. The End.

Oh, wow! I feel OLD! I, too, am a reader from those days back when you first brought baby Bean home from the hospital. Before long, we’ll all be sending college graduation gifts, then wedding gifts … ah, make life stop!
