Good Clean Fun
Today on the blog, I’m sharing all of my favorite magic potions I use when I’m getting ready. I don’t know about you, but the change of the seasons always makes me want to switch up all the smells in my bathroom, so maybe you’ll find something here to take your routine into summer!
Let’s start with hair. This past week, I actually wore my hair down and you guys were so excited to see my curls again that you practically broke my Instagram DM’s! Haha! Way to make a girl feel special! :).
I go back and forth between straight and curly hair. I love wearing it curly because that’s what’s natural for my hair and so it’s super easy and low maintenance. When I’m wearing it curly, I use this Pacifica shampoo and conditioner. It smells like summer in a bottle and it adds a lot of moisture to my hair, which helps when you have curly hair because it weighs it down a little so it isn’t so poofy.
When I get out of the shower, I use this leave in detangler and conditioner in both mine and Gracie’s hair. It smells so good and helps with fly aways in the morning.
Once that’s in my hair, I put in curling mousse to help fight humidity. I never brush my hair if I”m letting it naturally dry, otherwise it ends up flat and weird looking. Instead, I put a handful of this mousse in my hair and scrunch it all in. AND THAT’S IT!
Okay, let’s get back into the shower…
On days when I am going to straighten my hair (which only happens when I go to work, so I haven’t straightened it in over two months – yikes!), I use OGX Silk Blowout and John Freida’s Frizz Ease before I blow dry it and then use a hair straightener.
Okay, let’s get back in the shower again…
I have two other shampoos in my shower and both are to repair the damage from the Florida sun and our pool. I use Paul Mitchell’s awapuhi shampoo in my hair and on Gracie’s hair once a week to help strip the chlorine from our hair. I use the conditioner for this, too, but I used it to shave my legs, so I’m out right now. #reallife
Another shampoo and conditioner that I use on the daily is this Pacifica Rosemary Purifying shampoo (which, again, I have the conditioner for, but I used it to shave my legs… sooo…). This is actually my favorite daily shampoo. It has menthol in it and it makes your scalp tingle. Also, it smells DIVINE. I switch up between this Pacifica and the curly hair one.
For body wash, I am strictly a Dove cucumber scent girl. Always and forever, amen. It never dries my skin out and it smells so clean!
In keeping with the always-be-hydrating theme of Florida life, I also use this lavender body scrub a few times a week to keep my legs from looking ashy. It’s also really great to use before you shave your legs to get all the dead skin off first.
The last thing I do in the shower is wash my face. I have used this same Basis face soap since college. I love it! The only downside is that it isn’t available in stores (or, at least, in any stores I go to…), so I have to order it in bulk from Amazon. Fun fact: I accidentally signed up for the Amazon subscription of this for several months and now I literally have a dozen bottles of this in my closet. *face palm*
I only use the St. Ives scrub once a week or so because (say it together now…) DRY SKIN. But even when I use it, it never really dries my skin out. It leaves it so soft!
Okay, let’s get out of the shower. I’m pruny.
After my shower, the first thing I do is take my medicinal cocktail every morning. My current cocktail consists of calcium (cause my doctor suggested it at my last annual appointment now that I’m “inching towards 40” and I told her I wasn’t paying my copay if she said anything like that again), fish oil for my cholesterol, biotin for my hair and nails, Citalopram which is the generic for Lexapro and keeps me from the sads, Claritin so that breathing doesn’t give me a headache, and Lo Estra birth control because I had a ruptured ovarian cyst last year and continued to have excruciating mensural pain until I started on this in January.
Once I’m happily medicated, I take care of my face. If I didn’t wash it in the shower (or if I’m getting ready for bed at night), I use Neutrogena make up remover wipes. Even though I don’t wear hardly any make up, especially right now, these wipes just make my face feel so good! I also have my kids use them on days when they don’t shower before bed (no judging).
I also use Thayers Witch Hazel after my face is clean. I think this makes a HUGE difference in my face. I can tell the days I wear it and the days I don’t. It minimizes my pores and just helps smooth out my skin tone. Once that is dry, I put on Olay Complete face lotion with SPF. It feels SO GOOD on my face. It is light and not oily at all. I really don’t like lotions, but this doesn’t feel lotion-y at all. Just light and clean.
Once I’m dressed, I usually wear a little spray of perfume or body splash before heading out the door (which means I haven’t worn perfume or body splash in two months… sad face). For work and daily wear, I use Ralph Lauren’s Romance or Burberry Brit. For date nights with Chris, I wear Clinique’s Happy because that’s what I wore in high school, so I always keep a bottle around for him. (Sorry for that sappy that slipped out there… Gross, I know. Won’t happen again.). During the summer, I change my perfume to a lighter body splash. This spring and summer, I have been wearing Mediterranean Blue Waters from Bath and Body Works. It smells so clean and fresh!
Alright! I’m dressed and ready for the day! Thanks for playing along! 🙂

I use the same mousse on my hair, love it. I use the Herbal Essence curly shampoo and conditioner too. I use Marc Anthony strictly curls as my leave-in, and Redkin Frizz Dismiss. It’s a little pricey but all you need is one small pump of the stuff. I use it before I straighten my hair too and it’s all I need before using a blow dryer.

The product junkie in me loves this post.
I have naturally curly hair. Many years ago, I was standing in line behind this woman that had the most gorgeous curls, she was buying several bottles of Tresemme mousse. Not the curl one…the extra hold. Scooped up a bottle of it and have been using it ever since. I also love the Curlsmith line, especially the soufflé!

Citalopram is Celexa and escitalopram is Lexapro but both keep us from the sads 🙂 Thank you for sharing!
