Small Moments, Big Love

Small Moments, Big Love

There hasn’t really been much blog-worthy stuff happening on the home-front lately.  Life has just kind of been creeping along.  And, I have to say, I kind of love that.  Last year, I remember we over-committed ourselves during this time of year.  This year, though, we had a conscious effort to keep the first few weeks of school kind of low key, and it has been wonderful.  We have truly gotten to focus on the few things we wanted to focus on.  Such as… Bean started playing soccer last week….

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

First of all, let me thank you for the outpouring of support yesterday!  You all made me feel much better and gave me some confidence about stepping up for my kids.  In answer to a lot of your comments, I received an email last night from the principal thanking me profusely for my email and asking for a description of the staff member so that the incident would not be repeated with other children.  I am really glad Bean is attending this school and I know that this is not…

All Good Things Come to an End

All Good Things Come to an End

Last week was my first week back at school.  Boooooooo!!!!!!  Hisssssssssss!!!!!  Students don’t come back to school until August 18, but we had to go back early for a two week training and then our regular pre-planning the week of August 11.  It’s just no fair, I tell you! I spent all last week teaching other teachers about digital technology in the classroom.  My master’s degree was in Educational Leadership and my focus area was in technology in education, so digital curriculum is a passion of mine.  I’ve been lucky…

If You Give a Teacher a Summer Vacation…

If You Give a Teacher a Summer Vacation…

Last Friday, I had to go to the grocery store. Simple enough task, right? We had a ton of food leftover from the Fourth of July, and our family had been eating hot dogs and pasta salad all week long. We were in need of substance. And milk. I figured while we were out, we should go by this awesome camera store in downtown Orlando that I had been meaning to visit. Colonial Photo and Hobby has been an Orlando staple since God was a boy, I’m sure. And I’m…

Sideline Momma

Sideline Momma

Last week, I took the kids to the Downtown Disney splash pad. It’s one of our favorite summertime places. We went early in the morning (before 9:30) to avoid the summer Disney traffic. But since it was the week after Fourth of July, the crowds were a little slimmer. That’s actually a good insider tip for Disney. Plan your vacations the week AFTER a holiday. Most people come during the holiday week, so the lines are a lot shorter in the parks the following week. I’m still trying to learn…

If You Give a Boy a Swing Set

If You Give a Boy a Swing Set

If you give a boy a swing set, chances are he’s going to ask for you to turn the sprinklers on so he can swing in the “rain.” And if the boy gets his clothes wet while swinging with the sprinkler on, then he’s probably going to want to go ahead and play directly in the sprinkler, too. He IS already wet, you know… And if he’s already wet from the sprinkler, then he might as well put his feet in the pool… And kick…   And yell loudly… And…

Happiness is a Minor Change Away

Happiness is a Minor Change Away

My Happiness Project has been on temporary hiatus for the past two weeks while I get back on my feet.  But I’m back up and running again, and so I’ve recommitted to my January and February goals.  From January, I am continuing to stick to my bedtime.  And even Chris is joining in on the fun now.  He gets bored sitting downstairs without me, so he has been coming to bed when I do.  It’s actually been good for him, too.  He even told me the other day he feels…

Lessons I Learned This Week

Lessons I Learned This Week

This week has been a doozey, imaginary friends.  I had a bad reaction to a medication I was put on and have been shaky, dizzy, and fatigued all week, for about 24-hours we thought we might have to put Lucy down, I was basically eaten alive by a parent at a conference this week, Bean had a terrible stomach bug and threw up for two days on every linen and car we own, work has suddenly imploded, Chris has missed work so much in the past two weeks that he…

C’est La Vie

C’est La Vie

Oh, imaginary friends. I feel like we are growing apart. My silly work schedule at my silly job is draining me this year. Teaching is so intense right now that by the time I get home, I am exhausted. And because we are digital this year, I am also going blind from staring at an iPad screen, a laptop screen, and a Smartboard screen all day. Sitting down at a computer at night is the last thing I feel like doing these days. Another thing draining my time lately? My…

Part 2: Remembering the “We”

Part 2: Remembering the “We”

Last weekend, we sent the kids to my mom’s for a few days.  I blogged about it last week and said that Chris and I were stressed out from work and it was just the break we needed.  But that was sort of a fib. Sorry, imaginary friends. Yes, work has been stressful and, yes, it was nice to have a little break from responsibility for a few days.  But what we sent them to mom’s for was so that the two of us could have some time together.  We…
