Summer Moments

Summer Moments

There’s not much to report from these parts lately.  We’ve been doing a lot of this… Which is one of my favorite things to do, so no complaints here. I had to get out of the pool long enough to go to a teacher workshop this Monday and Tuesday. I’m a nerd because I love workshops and trainings. They get my mind going 90 miles an hour. We did some intense planning for next year, and I was just beside myself over a crisis I am calling, “Planner Crisis 2016.”…

When Bean is Away…

When Bean is Away…

For Bean’s 7th birthday, my mom took him on a trip to Washington, D.C.  They are having a blast, and I’ll share details about their trip once they get home and I can hijack my mom’s camera.  For now, she is sending me pictures on her phone every few hours, and I can just see the pure joy on Bean’s face.  It’s his first trip away from home without us, and so far, I think we miss him much more than he misses us! But no one misses Bean more…

The Mascot Games

The Mascot Games

This past Saturday, we took the kids downtown to see the Mascot Games.  I had no idea what this was.  Chris got tickets through work, and we figured, “Why not?”  Turns out, it was a lot of fun!  They had all these sports teams mascots there from all over Florida, but also from all over the country, even as far away as Toronto. (This is the bear from our Orlando hockey team, the Solar Bears. My kids LOVE Solar Bears games, and seeing “Shades” was the highlight of their day!)…

A Perfect Father’s Day Fore Us All!

A Perfect Father’s Day Fore Us All!

On Father’s Day, the kids and I took Chris golfing.  It was the first time we have played as a family of four on an actual course, and not just at the driving range. I was a little skeptical at first.  I mean, golf is everything my kids are not – polite, quiet, contemplative, old.  And yet, they rocked it and had a blast in the process! I learned so much about them on the golf course, actually.  For example, I learned that baseball has completely ruined Bean’s golf swing….

Why We Cancelled Our Family Vacation

Why We Cancelled Our Family Vacation

I’m supposed to be camping in the mountains right now.  Did I tell you about that?  Back in March, Chris and I decided that it would be super fun to take the family camping just outside of Gatlinburg the first week of summer vacation.  For several weeks, I pinned every Pinterest pin possible (say that five times fast) about what to do with kids in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.  I even came up with a little schedule for our vacation. And then May and June happened. I don’t know about you,…

Summer Fail.

Summer Fail.

Yesterday was the first, real, official, full day of summer in our house.  I had big plans.  BIG PLANS.  I made a summer schedule, a summer bucket list, and a list of home projects I wanted to complete.  I WAS READY. And then I failed horribly. Here is what I did yesterday: The dishes The laundry (I just folded what has been sitting in my bedroom in baskets for two weeks now.  That counts, right?) Cleaned out the refrigerator Took Daisy to the vet (Spoiler Alert: She’s huge and healthy.)…

When Floridians Vacation

When Floridians Vacation

This weekend, we took our family to Treasure Island with some friends of ours for a beach weekend.  It was heavenly, and just what I need to get me through the last seven days of school (SEVEN!). It was a perfect weekend filled with just the right amount of family, friends, kids, adults, beverages, adult beverages, pool floats, boogey boards, staying up late, sleeping in, and even a birthday cake thrown in there for fun.  It just hit the spot. Sadly, while we were playing in the Gulf on the…

Relax. It’s Little League.

Relax. It’s Little League.

Bean’s team had playoffs this weekend.  They played on Saturday and Sunday and won both games, which means they are headed to the championship game this week. I’m so proud of him because he played both games really well.  Base hits, a couple good RBIs, great fielding, and he even made the final out to end the last playoff game. More than that, I was proud of him for his sportsmanship. You guys should have seen some of the parents and coaches at these two games.  I was embarrassed for…

The Magic of Teaching

The Magic of Teaching

This past Friday was our school’s 8th grade Gradventure to Universal Studios.  Did you have a class trip when you were in 8th grade?  Yeah, I didn’t either.  These kids don’t know how good they have it.  Why, in my day, we carried pagers and walked to school both ways uphill in the blazing Florida heat. But today, kids get to leave school on a big fancy tour bus and go play at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure from 3:00 in the afternoon until 1:00 in the morning. Which…

Happy Mother’s Day to Me!

Happy Mother’s Day to Me!

As the kids get older, the Mother’s Days become even better. They are filled with more handmade artwork and lots of “you’re the best mommy ever’s.” My Mother’s Day celebration actually began Friday morning when I had “Muffins with Mom” at Gracie’s preschool. It is the seventh year I have had this breakfast at this school, and every year it gets sweeter and sweeter. (This is Gracie’s painting of me. I am particularly fond of the pink hair.) On Sunday, we packed up and headed to the beach. My favorite…
