A Different Kind of Summer

In the first few weeks of summer, I quickly realized that this summer would be… different.  For one thing, Bean and Gracie are starting to separate themselves from each other in some ways.  Not that they don’t still play together all the time or not get along anymore; they are still best buddies and, thankfully, get along really well.  But their ages and genders have just now started to separate them a little bit.  For example, I signed them both up for gymnastics camp for a week because they have…

Weddings + @Instagram = #truelove

Chris and I went to a wedding this past weekend that rocked my socks.  First of all, it had a crucial element to all successful weddings:  A happy couple.  Ashlyn and Josh are the sweetest, kindest, nicest, down-right-perfect couple. Example:  Last year when I was going through a rough time after my dad had died, the two of them decided they wanted to do something to give our family a day of pure happiness.  So, they showed up at Chris’s office one morning and gave him four tickets to Sea…

Things I Love Right Now

1.  Bean’s soccer games.  I love cheering for him on Saturdays at his soccer games.  It has been so fun to watch him grow and learn this season.  He doesn’t seem to have a competitive bone in his body right now, but he has so much fun out there!  This weekend, he was taking a throw in from the sidelines.  He took his time finding just the teammate he wanted to throw it to, getting himself all lined up and in good form, and then he raised the ball over…

Sensory Boxes, Ages 2-5

A few weekends ago, we went to Atlanta for my nephew, Tillman’s, second birthday. I had been thinking about what to get Tillman for a few months. I knew he was at that funny age where sometimes store-bought toys are the LAST thing they want to play with, so I knew I wanted to get him something that wasn’t fairly traditional. Finally, one night I was pinning kids ideas on pinterest (my kids board is here), and I came across a bunch of sensory boxes and activities that my kids…

Rainy Day Activities

The summer showers around here are getting intense.  Lightning, thunder, wind, rain.  Thankfully, neither of the kids or Big Molly are scared of thunderstorms, so that means we all just walk around the house bored, waiting for the rain to stop. Earlier this week, there was a particularly bummed out rain delay that lasted almost all day.  By mid-afternoon, we were climbing the walls (literally – the kids were trying to climb their doorways to their bedrooms) (kids are weird), so I decided to put my Pinterest account to use.…

A Fabulous Fourth!

The Fourth of July is one of Chris’s favorite holidays. And with all the grilling, swimming, and firework action, who wouldn’t love it? We had a fun time with friends and – bonus! – my new camera came in on Wednesday, so I have pretty pictures again! Yay! Unfortunately, I didn’t take as many pictures during the party, so you’ll just have to trust me that we had a great time! We have started putting a sign on our door during parties and having people walk around to our back…

Summer Supplies at the Dollar Store

We are still actively using our game closet on a daily basis around here.  Never more so than in the summertime.  The trick to maintaining this closet, I have found, is to keep rotating through the toys and activities.  Even if the kids outgrow an activity from the closet, I still keep it in there.  You never know when a set of wooden blocks will be needed for a superhero fortress, and we have used counting monkeys as armies, paper weights, dive toys, students in a classroom, and the list…

Household Tricks That Keep Me Sane

Almost from the day Gracie was born, I knew that in order to manage a household with two small children, organization was going to be key. It has taken me several years to figure out what kinds of organization systems work for our family, and I continue to add to and adjust how we keep our house as the needs of our family changes. But today I thought I would share just a few every day tips and tricks we use around our house to keep ourselves relatively neat and…

New Friends. New Pins.

This past Saturday, I took the kids to an Easter party that was hosted by one of the parents from Gracie’s class in school.  Chris and I have gotten to know a lot of the parents from Bean’s class over the past few years as the kids have grown up.  We’ve seen the same families at birthday parties and trick or treating and Christmas pageants, and we’ve gotten to know people pretty well. But Gracie is just now getting to the age where we are having social events for her.…

The Easiest Pinterest Make-Over Ever

Saturday night was a real rager around here.  After the kids went to be at 8:00, I sat up until 11:00 under my favorite blanket on the couch pinning everything Pinterest had to pin.  Seriously.  I actually reached a point where there was nothing left to scroll through, and then I stood up, stretched, and declared, “I HAVE REACHED THE END OF THE INTERNET!” In the middle of my pinning craze, I came across the most brilliant, simple pin I’ve found yet. The pin is here and the original post…
