The Share Chair

“Bean!” squealed Gracie. “I’m so glad you’re here!” “Oh, yeah? How come?” “All Mom’s given me is this stupid little lamb to play with, but it just keeps staring at me. I thought maybe you could bring me something more fun to play with…” “Oh, sure!” said Bean. “Here. You can have my Lightning McQueen car.” (silence) “Go ahead,” said Bean. “Take him.” “Gee, thanks, Buddy,” said Gracie. “But I was hoping you had something a little more…my taste?” “Umm…” thought Bean, looking around. “Oh, I know! Here. Take this…

Fussy Babies ROCK!

Ahhh…Gracie Girl. Gracie Girl, Gracie Girl, Gracie Girl. What can I say about Gracie Girl? For the first two months of Gracie’s little life, feeding her was a complete nightmare. Without going into too much detail (because it hasn’t been long enough yet and I might start twitching and/or crying if I think about it…), we knew almost right away that Gracie had reflux. Bean had it and so we recognized the symptoms right away. Pulling away from the bottle while she was eating, screaming through her feedings, screaming for…

A Frolic With Colic

“Hi there, Gracie Girl!” I said. “Don’t you ‘Gracie Girl’ me, Mom,” she said. “We are fighting.” “What?!?!” I screeched. “Why?” “Because you think I have colic.” “Now, I said I wasn’t sure. But your doctor and I think you might have a TOUCH of colic.” “I don’t have colic, Mom,” Gracie insisted. “Are you sure?” I asked. “Because you kind of seem like you might…” “Now, wait just a minute,” Gracie said. “What makes you say that?” “Well, you’re crying at certain times of the day…” “So?” “…for a…

Sweeping Baby

Shhhhh….  Gwacy is sweeping…. And if she wakes up, I’m gonna have ta kiss her cheeks for hours…  I can’t help it.  It’s an unstoppable urge. I kiss her little cheek and then nuzzle into her neck and sniff her. She smells delicious. Like powder and milk. And once I’ve kissed her cheek and sniffed her neck, I must then nibble on her perfect little nose. It’s a right of motherhood. I’m entitled to that nose. I made it, after all. With her cheeks kissed and her neck sniffed and…

Marriage and a New Baby

Chris and I have been fighting. We’re not big fighters usually. We disagree and we argue like anyone else, but we don’t get into fights very often. Especially in the past couple years. We know each other and what our sensitivities are and we have a pretty routine, predictable family life. There’s just not that much to fight about anymore. Enter a new baby. We are going through the transition right now, though, that I remember going through with Bean, too. It’s the transition and reorganizing that comes with adding…

Un-Blobbing

For the most part, newborns are little blobs of cuteness. They don’t do much besides eat, poop, and sleep. Or, if you’re Gracie, sleep, sleep, eat, sleep, poop, sleep, sleep some more, and then eat. She’s an overachiever when it comes to sleeping. Actually, she sleeps so much that when we went to the pediatrician for her two week check up, I told him I was a little concerned about how much she was sleeping. He sort of stood there for a second and then said, “I don’t think I’ve…

The Second First Bath

This past weekend we gave Gracie her first real bath. We’ve been giving her sponge baths, but she still had her little belly button nub that hadn’t fallen out yet so we couldn’t put her in a bathtub yet. But she dropped her nubby last week and so this weekend we were GO FOR BATH TIME. (Side note: How gross is the whole newborn belly button thing, right? It looks like they’ve got an ice pop sticking out of their stomach. So weird.) I remember when we gave Bean his…
