Why We Cancelled Our Family Vacation

I’m supposed to be camping in the mountains right now.  Did I tell you about that?  Back in March, Chris and I decided that it would be super fun to take the family camping just outside of Gatlinburg the first week of summer vacation.  For several weeks, I pinned every Pinterest pin possible (say that five times fast) about what to do with kids in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.  I even came up with a little schedule for our vacation. And then May and June happened. I don’t know about you,…

Vacation Pictures, Part Two!!!!!

(This is a continuation of our vacation to the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.  See it from the beginning here.) At the end of our awesome first day of vacation, we came home to the mountain cabin and roasted marshmallows with Big Molly on the deck.  The kids love to roast marshmallows, but they don’t really like to eat them, so I selflessly consumed about 10 pounds of roasted fluff on their behalf. Which is why I am eating carrots and lettuce this week, like a rabbit. The next…

Part II: Vacay Pictures!

Ginny and John Michael got into town late on Friday night, so Saturday morning we got right down to the business of vacationing. Chris and I made a breakfast casserole for everyone (which looked oddly inedible, but turned out to be pretty good!) and after we all stuffed our faces, we stuffed ourselves into bathing suits. Ginny and Gracie Girl were as fashionable as ever. Although, Gracie seemed to have put on a few pounds. Girlfriend was wearing a size 6-9mo bathing suit because none of her 3mo suits fit…

Pop Some Popcorn – It’s Vacay Pictures!

This past weekend, our whole family met in Tybee Island, Georgia, for a long weekend at the beach.  My parents rented a beautiful condo for us and we all brought food and drinks and settled in for a weekend of relaxing, chatting, and a lot of fun.  With Chris and I getting ready to close on our house THIS WEEK (cross your fingers, toes, and eyeballs, please!), we were in full-on decorating mode and so we instantly focused on how beautiful and doable this house’s style was.  It was exactly…

Totally Worth It.

This past weekend we ended a week-long celebration of Bean’s birthday at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  Now, the animal kingdom isn’t really my cup of tea.  I’m more along the lines of the thrill seeker type.  Actually ANY other park would have suited me better.  Magic Kingdom has a few pretty good rides, Hollywood Studios (formerly MGM) has a great roller coaster and the Tower of Terror, you can drink around the world at Epcot, Seaworld has two great roller coasters and they give you two free beers, and Universal Studios…

Bean’s Birthday at Disney: Part One

We celebrated Bean’s first birthday at Disney’s Animal Kingdom this past Saturday and I can’t even tell you how perfect the day was.  First of all, Bean looked awesome.  More awesome than ever, actually, because he was themed. I dressed him in a little safari outfit – complete with a hat.  And the best part was that the shorts were bathing suit trunks, so when it got hot I could get him wet and the shorts would dry really quickly. But more than his outfit, Bean was just a pure…

Driving in My Car

Since the 22 hour drive from Connecticut to Florida, Bean has become a wreck in the car.  He hates being in his car seat.  And I really can’t blame him.  He faces backwards and can’t see anyone.  He doesn’t get good A/C, so he’s always sweaty and hot.  And I think he is always worried that he’s going to get stuck in that car seat for another 11 hours at a time.  Even quick trips to the grocery store are traumatic. So, this past week we were in BJ’s picking…

To Infinity And Beyond: Fun at the Kennedy Space Center

Last week Chris, Bean, Chris’ sister, and I drove over to Titusville, Florida to watch the launch of the Discovery space shuttle.  Chris was mesmerized.  If he could have hitch hiked to space, I think he would have.  I watched his face light up as the night sky grew brighter and brighter with the light from the launch pad and it was like seeing a four-year-old boy.  Such perfect happiness.  Such incredible jealousy. A few days later as we were coming back to earth after the excitement of the launch,…

Beancast: Traveling for Thanksgiving

This year, we traveled to Virginia to spend Thanksgiving with my family at my sister’s house.   The trip was supposed to take 10 hours according to Mapquest.   We factored in an extra 2 hours for Bean stops and traffic.   Turns out, we were in the car for almost 14 hours.   We ended up stopping and spending the night at a hotel.   Instead of writing about our travels, I took some video for you.   So its almost like you were in the car with us.…

A Laborless Day

This weekend, all three of us have been a little under the weather. Saturday was the worst day though and we seem to be bouncing slowly back. Since we were feeling a little better yesterday, we decided to go ahead with our plan to visit the town of Watch Hill, Rhode Island. Watch Hill is a tiny town on a little peninsula that sticks off the coast of Rhode Island.   It is a tiny, one-road, beach community.   And by community, I mean group of incredibly wealthy people.  …
