Things to Do in the Hospital
Because I had a c-section, I am still in the hospital. Looks like I’ll probably be able to leave tomorrow or Friday. In case you’re counting, that’s 4 or 5 full days in the hospital. With a newborn baby. And an overly tired husband. Ahh…life’s little challenges.
So, what kinds of shinanigans are there to get into in the hospital?
Personally, I like to bother the nurses. Especially the cranky ones. I have this little cord I can pull that brings them all running into my room at the same time. This has provided me with hours of entertainment. I pull the cord to ask about television channels, to ask about when lunch is being served, to ask if I can have more lemonade. I know its not very nice. But its really fun to watch all these nurses come running. Bad, Katie! Bad!
Another fun thing to do in hospitals is to check out the other babies in the nursery. The Bean was a pretty big dude at almost 9 pounds, but there was a 10 pound baby in the nursery the other day and WHOA was that a sight to behold. My uterus hurt just looking at him. I call him Bubba. A 10 pound baby just needs to be called Bubba. Either Bubba or Mommy Hater.
I also like to play with the buttons on my bed. I can make this bed dance, I tell you. For a woman who has been forced to sleep on her side with a pillow between her legs and a heating pad tied to her back for the past nine months, this create-your-own bed positioning is like heaven!
Let’s see…how else have I been spending my time?…. I know there was something I’ve been doing to keep me busy…. Now what was that?…. Hmm….
Oh yeah. I remember.

Sounds like your having fun! I totally think that Bubba is the ONLY name for that 10 lb baby.
BTW The bean is so perfect! That little face makes me melt 🙂

haha… I would love to play tricks on all the grumpy nurses… except I am a student nurse… so things probobly would ture out very well for me it I did. It was fun hearing about your tricks though.

Sorry you have cranky nurses–that isn’t cool. I am jealous that you get to look at babies in the nursery. TMH didn’t have a window in their nursery so we couldn’t go look at da babies 🙁 Glad you are coming home tomorrow!!!

My brother weighed 12 lbs. on the dot when he was born. My mom delivered him completely naturally. True story. I was 7 and he was pretty much the same size as me! haha

He is cutie!! Seriously any woman who has a c-section or not so fun things that lead to stitches elsewhere during child birth, deserves to be taken care of hand & foot by those nurses. Hope you get to go home sooner than later.

Although you are keeping yourself busy in the hospital, I am sure you are looking forward to making your way home with your new bundle and sleepy husband. I am so excited for you! So… at home you won’t have a cord to pull to get the nurses to come running… you may need to invest in a bell for your husband to come running. LOL!! I am sure he will be right there by your side, as he always is.

Hey now! On behalf of us nurses, that’s not cool 😉 Trust me, it’s not entertaining from the other side!

hey, i had a 10 pound baby!!! and no his name is not bubba 🙂
we did put the hospital into lock down when we were there. my husband accidently got the baby lojack wet, don’t do it. we had 3 nurses in our room within .2 seconds and seriously the whole floor along with the rest of the hospital doors were sealed shut. it took about 15 minutes after they knew everything was ok to unlock the system. it’s nice to know that they have systems like that in place though.

A few other ideas for the duration of your stay:
1. Open a package of gause and leave a trail from the nurse’s station to your room. First write little messages on each square with sharpie.
2. Build a model log cabin with tongue depressors. Size of model depends directly on hospital budget. You’ll know what I mean when you go searching in all those little drawers for some.
3. Challenge Chris to see how many Q-tips he can fit in each ear. Be careful, but don’t worry, there’s an emergency room nearby.
4. You could take up knitting, but that’s too traditional.
5. Find out how many baby blankets you need to knot together to reach the ground floor from your window – that is assuming you’re not on the ground floor. What floor are you on anyway?

That picture? The one at the end?
I think that must be the best reason in the world to end up in the hospital playing cruel pranks on the cranky nurses =)

Not fair – my button did not have that effect! so cute!

Are you going to order your very own Craft-Matic Bed?
Michael aka “The Bean” (how many babies have an alias from day 1 ?) is a beautiful baby.

So happy for you and Chris and Bean!
I so know what you mean about being stuck in the hospital. Hannah was C also and that room drove me insane after about a day. I think they put sedatives in my painkillers so I wouldn’t tear my hair out.
Wish I could have taken that bed home with me, though. That thing was da bomb.
