Technical Shhhmechnical

We love our new site.  Love it.  I just keep staring at it.  I think it’s the bows.

Print

The bows done did me in.  But, like all new homes, there’s a few kinks to take care of before we’re really at home here.

First, we know the site is going slow.  It’s super frustrating to us, too.  Try doing anything technical to a website when it’s slower than Christmas.  But, we’re working on that.  Part of the problem is the traffic (you guys rock, by the way) but part of the problem is our server handling all the bows.  So, we’re working on that and just as soon as I rob a bank, we’ll be moving to a bigger, better, faster server and you can see all the bows you want at warp speed.

Also, there are some issues with logistics on the site.  Some of your favorite things (like the blog roll and the suggested posts) aren’t there.  That’s simply because we didn’t know anyone used those so we didn’t build them into this site.  But now that the imaginary people have spoken, we’re working on adding back some of your favs since we now know what you guys actually were using on the other site.

And lastly, Chris crashed the site yesterday.  Let’s all giving him a round of applause.

(applause, applause, applause)

He was trying to clean up the server and make some things run faster and – opps! – he deleted the whole darn site!  He’s always been such a good cleaner.  But, he fixed his own problem and we’re back in business.  Over the next couple days, if you get an error message that says the site is no longer there, DON’T BELIEVE A WORD OF IT!  We’re just working out some kinks and in trying to make things better, we may actually make things worse.  But we’ll fix it.  This is just what happens when a uber professional web design team like Flosites hands their beautiful website over to two people who had to buy a copy of Blogging for Dummies when they first started their blog.

(We really did buy that book, by the way.)

As a big ol’ thanks for sticking around while we move into our new digs, I’m giving you a present.  Check out the Reviews page today for a little somethin’ somethin’ gift of appreciation (courtesy of one of my lovely readers, AJ Designs).

Also on my list of random things to share with you today:  I’m not sick anymore!  It’s been three days and I haven’t been sick once.  I’m a little nauseous, but that’s totally fine.  I think it was the fact that I switch to Flintstone vitamins after you all suggested them to me (they’re so yummy!!) and that I finally got a prescription from my doctor.

Oh, don’t misunderstand me.  I haven’t actually USED the prescription yet.  Haven’t even filled it, actually.  But somehow just having a prescription seemed to cure me.  That happens a lot of me.  Chris thinks it means that my illnesses are all mental.  And that’s when I threw up on him and said, “You better mentally clean that off.”

And last on my list of random things to share with you, Chris and I are planning our very first mini-vacation in about a year.  I’m so darn excited.  It’s just a weekend away with Bean Man, but I can’t tell you how excited I am to just jump in the car and go somewhere!  That makes me happy.

So, that’s about it.  Tomorrow be sure to check back for a super, duper giveaway from one of my favorite places to shop!

Katie, I would like to thank you for making me pregnant. Almost 6 months ago I told my husband about your website. I told him all of the parallels between our lives. We have a daughter who was born at the beginning of Aug 09. I realize that Bean was born in June, but your daily post always seems to relate to something we experienced that same week. You went to Disney…we were at DisneyWorld that week. You are a teacher…I am a teacher – tho I am a SAHM while the babe grows. Before you announced you were pregnant, I just knew you were going to be pregnant…I just knew it. I should have run for the hills. Now don’t get me wrong, I want a large family and have been craving some newborn cuddles. However, my husband is currently in a position where his job (with Uncle Sam) keeps him 4 hrs away from us – until August – then we will get to live together (we’ve been living this crazy life since a month after our daughter was born – thank you Army)! And I am currently getting my Masters. Well, doesn’t a baby throw a wrench in the plans! I just took my 4th test in 3 days – they all say the same thing. I’m telling you because I’m not ready to tell my family. Oh yea, while my husband is mobilized, my daughter & I have been living with my parents. Won’t they be happy to have another baby in the house! So, thank you Katie & Chris for making me preggers again. It’s all your fault. :O) :O) :O)

if you are still taking upgrade to the site suggestions…is there any way we can see more than 2 comments at once?? the comments window is tiny! I do love the new site though!

  • Jen C

we’re not fair weather fans of you so we’ll keep coming back! the site looks so great and i’m happy you’re feeling so much better 🙂

  • Kat

I was thinking that you guys were secretly testing our patience to see just how badly we wanted to view or comment on your blog. I was winning. And yay for vacation! Where are you going? How about a trip to CT??

  • Nate's Mom

I’m so not cool. What’s a blog roll? It kind of sounds tasty. Love love love the new site, but miss the comments section being bigger. I like reading all the comments of the Confessions community!

  • Tressa

I’m with ya til the end!!! No matter how confusing it gets for me! I love you guys like that 😉
I have to agree with Nate’s Mom though, I miss the comment section being bigger. It kills my eyes to read all this tiny print. But hey, like I said I’m here and will stay, you can’t make me leave ya!!!!

  • Mindee@ourfrontdoor

Yay! I think I can comment again. I was trying very hard not to take it personally earlier when your site rejected my comment.
    It wasn’t personal, was it?
    Was it?
    Nevermind.
I’m so glad you are feeling better!

Congrats on your new site. Glad you’re working on the sloooooooowness. Also, the print is way too small and is very difficult to read. So is this grey type…

  • El

I am so gald that you are feeling better! I hope the New Guy keeps letting you feel better. The new site is great! Enjoy your vacay!

  • Chloe

Glad to hear you’re feeling better and back up and running. Vacations are the best!

PS: If you had to do away with the bow background to something more basic to make the site faster, I think we could deal. The white blog box on top of the light colored bow background makes it a tad bright for the eyes to read. Love you though and loved seeing you in Southern Weddings!

Hang in there Chris, I’ve never been a part of any website launch that didn’t have little tweaks to work out- this site looks great and you both should be proud!

Okay, because I teach school, and because it’s Friday night, and because school teachers are officially brain dead by 3:00 p.m. on Fridays, I completely misunderstood your mini-vacation comment. I thought you were saying that said mini-vacation would take place in one year. That thought was followed rapidly by two more thoughts (1) Wow talk about planning ahead and (2) What the heck is she going to do with the baby (not that you couldn’t leave him/her with family). Like I said I’m brain dead. So I reread that part of the post about 6 times and finally, it clicked. You are soon to go on your first mini-vacation since about a year ago. Okay, so you didn’t need to know all of that, but I felt the need to share how my weird mind works.

P.S. I like the new sight

  • Julie

My favorite part of the new site is that I can see that the newest posts right on the home page. 🙂 Everything looks great – I am super jealous. I’ve been imagining a blog redesign for ages, but I haven’t been able to commit to anything.

  • Alaina

I would need that book, too! I’m so not a technical person at all. But hey, yay for not getting sick and double yay for taking a mini vacation! It’ll be well deserved!
