Madame President
So, tonight I was elected as the PTA president at my kidsâ school for next year. Â You can all call me Madame President from now on.
Hereâs what I like to do in my life. Â I like to take the things that drive me the most insane, the things I complain the most about, the things I wish I wasnât doing the most and I like to become in charge of them. Â *eye roll* I canât explain it. Itâs just a thing I do. I think itâs a form of self punishment for all the complaining I do.
âOh, yeah? Â You donât like that? Â WELL, NOW YOU HAVE TO LEAD IT!â Â
I irritate myself. Â
Anyway, while I was being elected to my throne, Chris was on kid duty at tennis. Â We are down a car this week, so we have been attempting to share my van. Iâm actually impressed with how smoothly it is going. Â I kind of like it, actually. Chris drops me off on his way to take the kids to school in the morning and then I walk home from school at the end of my work day. Â He meets me at the house later with the kids that he has picked up from aftercare and we head off to whatever after-school events are on our calendar.
Come to think of it, maybe I like it so much because Iâm not responsible for shuffling anyone around this week. Â Itâs kind of nice to be chauffeured for once instead of being the driver all the time.
Maybe itâs a perk of being Presidential now. Â I could get used to this!
Anyway, the kids are wrapping up their tennis lessons next week and it reminded me about end of the year gifts.  I donât normally give gifts to coaches and teachers at the end of the year. I do give a nice card from our whole family, though, thanking them for their time and commitment to our children.  But when I sat down to write the card for our tennis coaches, I realized thatâs really pretty lame. Who wants a card when you could have booze? So, I attached their cards to bottles of wine and felt better about my life choices. Â
I wonder if PTA presidents get cards and bottles of booze? Â I should have looked into this further before I took the position…
Sincerely,
Madame President

There were no gifts or bottles of wine when I was PTO President….

Omg, I do this all the time. Anytime Iâm a part of something and I donât like it, I get a brief flash of âWell Carlene, if you donât like something, be a part of the solution not the problem!â (Very sunshiney and very unlike me). I volunteer to be in charge of that thing and then complain about it for a year while my husband complains about my impulsiveness.

1) As much as I love you, this was major FUBAR on your part.
2) I will happily serve as your personal Wine Fairy to deliver wine to you when you need it the most. (“The most” because you are a teacher and need it every day, which would break me. So I’m there for those days when…you know when they are.)
3) I think you’re awesome and wish you would stop setting the bar so high for us mere mortals.

You’re the best. I definitely need a Wine Fairy in my life!
