A Christmas Present Idea for Elementary Age Kiddos

Two years ago, when Bean was in first grade and Gracie was in preschool, we got the kids an Osmo for Christmas.  I found it on one of Amazon’s gift list ideas.  I was a little nervous because it was kind of pricey for something I’d never seen or used before, but it has turned out to be a favorite around my house. An Osmo is an educational game system that connects to your iPad.  It turns your iPad into an interactive, manipulative tool for kids to use in a…

End of Year Teacher Gift Idea

For once in my life, I am ROCKING the end of the school year.  I’m teaching a unit right now that I taught at this same time last year, so planning each day has been a piece of cake.  My lessons are basically prepackaged and ready to go, which is heaven to any teacher.  I’ve already started to take down my classroom little by little, removing a poster here, a decoration there.   I even went ahead and had some things laminated for next school year so that I don’t…

Gracie’s 5th Birthday Recap

Happy Easter, friends!  A better blogger would have scheduled an Easter recap on Easter Sunday instead of a birthday recap.  But… half-assed.  So instead, let me just tell you that we had a lovely Easter here at our house.  My mom came to church with us in the morning, and in the afternoon we had a big lunch with friends of ours.  It was relaxed, casual, and focused on what mattered.  Just the way I like to spend holidays. Easter was actually the ending of a really busy weekend at…

Easter Basket Ideas – 5yo Boy and 4yo Girl

I better mother would have had these finished weeks ago.  A better blogger would have documented these weeks ago. Unfortunately for you all, I’m neither. So, here we sit two days before Easter, ready to talk about Easter basket ideas.  Don’t judge.  I’ve been busy trying on my newest Stitch Fix, which I will post about next week. (SPOILER ALERT:  It’s my favorite one yet.) Therefore, I dedicate this post to all you other slacker moms out there who find themselves scrounging around for last minute Easter basket ideas.  Cheers to…

Christmas Gifts 2014: Three Year Old Girl

My mother is notorious in our family for starting her Christmas shopping way too early.  She starts requesting Christmas lists in August and by October, she’s pretty much finished.  She spends November picking up some odds and ends, and then by December she is officially done.  The Nana Shop is closed.  And every year, we rag on her and rag on her and rag on her about how ridiculous she is being. And then I bought my first Christmas present this year back in August and I realized that thing…

Things I Love Right Now

1.  Bean’s soccer games.  I love cheering for him on Saturdays at his soccer games.  It has been so fun to watch him grow and learn this season.  He doesn’t seem to have a competitive bone in his body right now, but he has so much fun out there!  This weekend, he was taking a throw in from the sidelines.  He took his time finding just the teammate he wanted to throw it to, getting himself all lined up and in good form, and then he raised the ball over…

Sensory Boxes, Ages 2-5

A few weekends ago, we went to Atlanta for my nephew, Tillman’s, second birthday. I had been thinking about what to get Tillman for a few months. I knew he was at that funny age where sometimes store-bought toys are the LAST thing they want to play with, so I knew I wanted to get him something that wasn’t fairly traditional. Finally, one night I was pinning kids ideas on pinterest (my kids board is here), and I came across a bunch of sensory boxes and activities that my kids…

Celebrating a Five Year Old in Style!

Michael turned FIVE last SUNDAY, people. FIVE YEARS OLD! How did this HAPPEN!?!? My womb is saddened by this news.  She feels old and useless.  And old.  And empty.  But mostly old. We had a hard time figuring out what to get him for his birthday this year.  We thought about a scooter, like Gracie got for her birthday, but he didn’t really want one of those.  We asked if he wanted a new bike since he is getting so tall for his, but he wasn’t too excited about that…

Making the Dollar Store Work for Teacher Gifts!

This year, we have seven teacher gifts to give.  SEVEN.  That is one drastic downside of daycare.  There are so many teachers to thank!  Gracie has three alone in her classroom, and then Bean has two in his.  But I’m also giving gifts to Bean previous two teachers since he had them for more than half the year (and since I love them so much!). Seven gifts adds up to a lot of money.  I would love to be able to spend $20 or even $30 on one significant teacher…

New Mom Bag

I went to visit a sweet friend of mine last week who has just had her first baby.  The little pooper slept the whole time I was there (the baby; not my friend), so I haven’t gotten to snuggle him up yet.  But I’m waiting to pounce on him the next chance I get! I love going to visit new moms, but I never like to go empty handed.  Of course, food is always a welcomed gift to bring a new family, but I like to really do something nice…
