Double Trouble

Double Trouble

The older kids get, the harder it is to keep a straight face when they are in trouble.  AmIright???? The other day, we were driving down the road and they were getting on my last nerve.  They had been in one of those playing hysterically moods where their “fun” can quickly become “murder charges” in the blink of an eye.  I had been getting onto them to leave each other alone, to settle down, to keep their hands to themselves…  Blah, blah, blah… Finally, I reached the last straw and…

A New Adventure: Rock Climbing

A New Adventure: Rock Climbing

We got the sad news a few weeks ago that Bean’s best friend is moving out of the country right after school ends this year.  Bean’s pretty devastated.  He and his buddy have been in both kindergarten and first grade together.  Not to mention, he lives right around the corner from us and goes to our church.  So, they see each other a lot.  They go to our youth group meetings on Wednesday nights at our church sometimes together, and Bean’s friend even came to watch Bean’s baseball games with his…

Report Card Predictions

Report Card Predictions

Bean got his report card last week. All A’s, of course. Even in math. He gets it from his daddy. His favorite subject is math. And his favorite part about math is counting money. He’s a BEAN COUNTER!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, man. I should stretch before I pun. In the comments section of Bean’s report card, his teacher had written a little note: “Michael continues to be a positive role model for all students at our school.” All students, huh? Not to shabby, Beanie Man. Chris and I were reading over the comment…

Growing Up Gracie

Growing Up Gracie

In all the hustle and bustle of Bean Man starting kindergarten, Gracie was sort of overlooked. Well, not really. But SHE thinks she was overlooked. We made sure that with everything we celebrated for Bean, we were celebrating just as much with Gracie. Yay! You get to go into a new classroom! Yay! You get to eat lunch in the cafeteria this year! (Which was the greatest thing to happen in Gracie’s short little life so far. She tells us about the ‘cafetewia’ every day.) Yay! You get to see…

Raising Boys and Girls

Raising Boys and Girls

Y’all, my sister is having a GIRL!!!!!!!!!! I am so happy for her family! Especially for Tillman. He is going to make an awesome big brother! See? His shirt even says so! Thinking about Ginny’s family this weekend has made me stop and think about my own kids. Raising a girl and a boy is very different. Potty training girls is easier than potty training boys. They use physical touch differently.  Bean shows physical affection very roughly and usually through playing.  Gracie shows physical affection by snuggling up and getting…

Where Did My Sweet Boy Go?

Where Did My Sweet Boy Go?

The past week or so with the kids has about driven Chris and I insane.  Gracie is at a pretty decent stage right now, actually.  She is happy and loud and active and life is good.  But Bean?  Whew.  Something has hit him hard in the past few weeks. That dude has become so grumpy!  He is always complaining about something.  “But I don’t want that for dinner!”  “Gracie is annoying!”  “I don’t want to go grocery shopping!”  “Why do I have to give him a birthday present?” Mostly, I…

Siblings and Potty Training

Siblings and Potty Training

One of the things that has made potty training Gracie very different than potty training Bean is having Bean around.  He was sort of hanging out on the fringes for a while, just making sure Gracie wasn’t getting anything that he wasn’t getting.  He sniffed around her Skittles jar, and he talked about stickers a lot when she’d put one up on her chart.  I knew that it must be kind of hard for him to suddenly have Gracie be the center of attention for a week while we potty…
