Big Molly and the Dog Door

Big Molly and the Dog Door

For Christmas, Chris and I gave the dogs a dog door.  We thought they would love it.  As much as they are constantly whining to go outside and inside and outside and inside, we figured this would make them so very, very happy. Daisy loves it.  She runs in and out all day long.  She brings her toys outside, then she runs them back inside.  She sees a squirrel outside and she’s through the flap chasing it across the yard in seconds.  She gets in trouble, we put her outside,…

Doggy Boarding and Other Family Activities

Doggy Boarding and Other Family Activities

This past week, we have been dog sitting a friend’s dog.  Dash is super sweet, gets long well with our dogs, and is apparently smarter than them, too.  For Christmas, we got the dogs a dog door.  They want to go in and out all the time, and we thought this door would be the perfect solution to their freedom.  Turns out, Daisy is too dumb to use it and Molly is too stubborn. Daisy sits outside the dog door flap and just hits it with her paw a hundred…

Buddy the Dog

Buddy the Dog

My mom came over this weekend to spend the night. The next morning, we were sitting around having breakfast and she started telling some stories from my childhood that happened without me (and probably my sister) knowing. Chris and I were dying laughing. Especially the stories about our family dog, Buddy. Once, a little girl from our neighborhood knocked on our door one afternoon. When my mom came to the door, the little neighbor girl said sweetly, “Mrs. Tillman, I just saw Buddy up at the grocery store.” “No, sweetie,”…

Daisy Doo

Daisy Doo

I wanted a third baby.  Real bads.  I begged Chris for months.  Actually, almost a year.  But he was adamant that we should not be outnumbered.  “Man to man coverage,” he would say.  “Can’t take that spread offense, Mom.” Just before Christmas, we finally agreed on a solution.  We would get a puppy.  And I could snuggle and cuddle and sniff her forever and ever amen. Which is how Daisy joined our family. We got Daisy from a rescue society in Orlando.  It was the craziest process I’ve ever been…

The Doggie (doesn’t) Paddle

The Doggie (doesn’t) Paddle

Last week, my mother-in-law, Jackie, was in town to hang out with us for the week.  We had a super fun visit, but that’s nothing new.  I love when Jackie comes to town.  We talk about teaching (she was my teacher when I was in middle school!), we shop, we eat good food.  She’s a lot of fun. One afternoon, we were sitting by the pool with the kids when Big Molly came trotting up to the side of the pool.  Molly is not a fan of the pool, but we’ve…

I.ve Lost My Mind. And My Dogs.

I.ve Lost My Mind. And My Dogs.

I just survived the month of July, which was pretty intense around our house. Three camps for the kids, VBS, Chris’s big work project, swimming lessons (which are ongoing), and the completion of my two summer classes for my teaching certificate. Busy, busy, busy. This is the first week where we don’t have things to do every single day, and I am prepared to enjoy every minute of it. Apparently, though, my brain has decided it has earned a vacation because today it was nowhere to be found. Both kids…

Too Many Living Things

Too Many Living Things

We have a lot of living beings in our house. Me and Chris, two wild two legged beasts, two wild four legged beasts, and a fish named Lt. Dan (cause he ain’t got no legs). When we’re all home and at full capacity, it’s a little overwhelming. And God help the person who calls me when all living beings in our house are hungry. It’s like World War 3 around here at meal times – every man (or beast) (or Bean) for themselves. In all the hustle of our daily…

Puppy Love

Puppy Love

From the minute we brought Bean home from the hospital, Big Molly has been right by his side. She used to lay down where ever he was – next to his bouncer, next to the swing, next to him on the floor, and even in his room at night. She was hopelessly in love with him. As Bean has gotten older and more mobile, Molly and Bean have stayed tight. They go everywhere together. Today, I was sitting in the living room and out of nowhere, Molly walks by with…

A Day at the Dog Park

A Day at the Dog Park

(Warning: This post is about poop.  Lots of poop.  Proceed at your own risk.  Just be thankful that my camera cord is still missing and so I don’t have any pictures to share.) For the first few years of Lucy’s life, I was living in college apartments.  That meant that she learned how to walk on a leash pretty good because I had to walk her every day.  She got so good that she could actually go to the bathroom on command. “Go potty, Lucy.” Done. But when we got…

Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds

Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds

Once upon a time there was a little mutt puppy named Lucy.  She was beloved by her owner named Katie and all was right with the world. Together, Katie and Lucy explored the world together. It was a happy time, even if Katie did often insist on dressing Lucy in ridiculous outfits. Lucy loved Katie so much that she even forgave her for The Hat Incident of 2003. And then Katie married a boy named Chris and though Lucy needed some time to adjust, she eventually came to love Chris,…
