Ultracool Ultrasound

This week I had my 20 week ultrasound.   It was awesome.   During this exam, they actually had a purpose other than to amuse me.   They zoomed in really, really closely on my little Beanie Weenie and they examined every one of his organs and the blood flow going to and from each one to make sure that he was developing correctly.

Good news – He was!

Here is his profile picture.   That dark spot in the middle his is brain.   I don’t know about you, but I think that’s a Rhodes Scholar brain right there…

They also zoomed way in to look at his facial structure.   Its kind of freaky actually.   He looks a litttttle bit like an alien…   At this point, it really is a face only a mother can love and – lucky me! – I’m the mother!

I’ve mentioned before that this little dude moves around all the time.   All.   The.   Time.   Usually when I’m working.   Or sitting in meetings.   He hates meetings.   He kicks me in the gut and I picture him saying, “Mom!   I’m bored!   Let’s go play outside instead!”   and I just rub my belly and say in my head, “Me, too, Baby Bean!”

And apparently, he gets bored at ultrasounds as well because half way through the ultrasound he was completely over it.   He started flailing around, moving his legs and arms, turning his body over.   He was not amused.   And I experienced my first maternal embarrassment and began apologizing to the ultrasound tech, “I’m so sorry,” I said.   “We’re working on his manners…”

So, the tech is moving the ultrasound-wand-thingy around and all of a sudden, you see him streeeetch is little legs straight out.   It looked like he was standing up in there.   And I could feel the pressure on the inside just as he did it.   It was the coolest thing ever.   For a few days now, I have been feeling these little bouts of pressure inside my stomach in different areas.   Its almost like someone is pushing against me really slowly from the inside out.   It comes on slowly and it ends slowly, but when it happens I can actually feel something poking out on the outside of my stomach.   So, being able to see on the screen exactly what he was doing in there to make me feel that was incredible.

And they got a picture of it!!   Here are his two little legs, all stretched out.

Aren’t babies just the coolest?

This is awesome! My husband and I got married last summer but aren’t planning on starting a family for another year or so — I’ve got the fire burning in my womb though!!!

It’s great to hear about your experience and those sonogram pics just warm my heart!
