April Showers
Yesterday I told about the nightmare day of travel that got us from Connecticut to Florida. Thankfully, the rest of the weekend was so much darn fun that it completely made up for it.
On Saturday, my Mom and Mom-in-Law, Jackie, threw me a baby shower. It was pretty awesome. The main event at the shower was a scrapbooking table.
The table had little bags set up all over it and each bag had a theme on the outside. One said “First Christmas,” one said “Daddy’s Helper,” one said “Mommy’s Boy,” one said “All Trouble,” etc. Inside each bag were scrapbooking supplies that matched the theme on the outside. Everyone at the party picked a bag and scrapbooked a double-page spread in a scrapbook for me. By the time we were finished, I had a complete scrapbook for the Beaner’s first year. All I will have to do is add pictures. If you are throwing a shower of any kind of someone, I highly suggest this activity! It gave us something to do, but wasn’t so structured and corny as shower games (although, I secretly love shower games!). Really great idea!
My oldest friend, Sarah, came into town for the baby shower. We scrapbooked together and decided that we were the most un-creative people at the party. She made a Christmas page that was…well…not attractive (sorry, Sarah) and I made a Man Cave page that was equally as boring. We weren’t good at this game. Good thing there were other people there to counter us out…
My mom made me a diaper cake. I had never really seen one up close before and guess what – it is actually made out of diapers! There were all kinds of goodies stuffed around the outside, and when it was time to “open” it, I dug into the center and found even bigger gifts like crib sheets and blankets. It was really neat! And so pretty! I hated to open it!
My Mom-in-Law made me a diaper cake as well, but this one was very different. The theme of the party was pea pods (because we call the baby The Bean – get it?), and so this one looks like a giant pea pod stuffed with diapers and this creepy little baby doll. The diapers were newborn size and they were TINY!!! Really cute idea with the pea pod though. This was the centerpiece on the scrapbooking table.
Someone gave me this beautiful white bassinet for my bedroom. I didn’t register for a bassinet because I didn’t really know what to do with them, but this one is gorgeous! We are going to put it in my bedroom for the first few weeks so the baby can sleep in there with us (and the dogs). We’ll live it up commune style for a little while – everyone piled in our bedroom. Like a sleep over every night – a sleep over with lots of peeing and pooping and eating and crying….
This is me and my Mom-in-Law, Jackie, and my Sister-in-Law, Annie. And the next picture is me and my Mom. These ladies threw one great shower! (In the second picture, those are teething rings around my neck. Sexy.)
At the end of the shower, I opened my gifts. Oh my goodness, did I get some gifts! People were so generous! We had to ship the package of presents home since we had flown down, and I can’t wait for the box to get here so that I can open it up and go through everything again! Blankets, binkies, bouncers, and bottles! It was baby-palooza!
It was a perfect baby shower! I had so much fun! It made the terrible travel all worth it!
You know what else was perfect? MY BABY SISTER’S ENGAGEMENT!!! That story tomorrow…

I miss you already!! Let’s work on our scrapbooking skills so that by the time I have a child, it will be better than our last attempt. 🙂 Love you.

My shower was scheduled for April 25, but since Porter decided to bust out 5 weeks early, our shower was canceled and I am really bummed about it–but I am glad that I have lived vicariously through your showers!
P.S.: Got your package today–too cute! Aaron LOVES the bib– I suspect he will be wearing it around the house soon.
